If you listen to the NPR Fresh Air interview with James Cameron, you'll see that there isn't any enmity between him and Bigelow (they were married once, a while back). I seem to remember him saying that he would be just as happy if THL won Oscars as if Avatar did, or at the very least that they weren't against each other.

I believe that he has no enmity toward her, and that he is happy for her success. However, I do not believe that he wasn't upset about losing Best Picture. I think it is going to light a serious fire under him for the sequel. I have a feeling the sequel is going to be epic on a level that has never been seen or contemplated before. Kind of a, "OK, let's see you not give THIS Best Picture" type of thing

![]() Cameron is a good sportsman. I bet one of the reasons he isn't angry at Kathryn (whether it's a big reason, or just a side one) is because he had his day with "Titanic". He was the king of the world then, and he knows Avatar will still be loved by far more people than those who liked "The Hurt Locker". Plus, "The Hurt Locker" really needed this fame to get anywhere at all, since it was a pretty bad flop at the box office... Had it been worth seeing at all; all I saw was a lot of heart-felt emotion and intensity with absolutely no plot to tie it together, like a documentary you can see an identical twin of on stations like "Military Channel"... ![]() |

James Cameron is a very good sport, and from what I've heard he and Kathryn are very good friends and he indeed pushed her to do THL. I'm over the Oscars, they are such a joke (not just because of Avatar, but they've given so many awards to undeserved movies in the past that this was the last straw. I hope this pushes Cameron to make somethig super incredible... I'm sure it is it's Cameron we're talking about

I'm over the Oscars as well. They are still run by the same people and will continue to award less than stellar movies at times. I hope we will get a very good sequel to Avatar

Yeah, I'm over it but I still hate Bigelow, she sucks! She should have walked up on stage and said "I'm not taking this award because I don't deserve it" and walked off. I would have respected that.
But look at the LOTR trilogy, it did not win best director or best picture until the third movie even though it should have won it for all 3.

...Avatar might accomplish the same feat. However, even though I'm over the Oscars, I'm still boycotting them next year. No question. I had one last ounce of hope after they snubbed "The Dark Knight"; I honestly believed they'd cut the crap and give the people what they want. They got there one quarter of the way by abolishing the stupid "And the Oscar goes to..." line and replacing it with the original "And the winner is...", which should've been done a LONG time ago. But what happened with Avatar was unprecedented. Both director and picture went to THL. That made me sick. I'm over it now, but I'm still refusing to watch the Oscars next year. I'll find out the results on some website that's unaffiliated with anything to do with the Academy. |
