Default Sigourney Weaver Attacks Oscar Voters

Yeah, I know we should probably all move on from the Oscars, but it seems that a month after the awards show, some of the disappointment and frustration from the cast is coming out.

Outspoken "Avatar" star Weaver said she believed Cameron -- who lost out to his ex-wife, "The Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow -- didn't win because the academy wanted to make history by naming its first ever female Best Director.

"Jim didn't have breasts, and I think that was the reason," Weaver told Brazilian news site Folha Online over the weekend. "He should have taken home that Oscar."
In a stunning rebuke hinting at frustration in the "Avatar" camp -- who applauded gracefully when "The Hurt Locker" also took the Best Picture Oscar -- Weaver added, "In the past, 'Avatar' would have won because they [Oscar voters] loved to hand out awards to big productions, like 'Ben-Hur.' Today it's fashionable to give the Oscar to a small movie that nobody saw."

Here is what Stephan Lang had to say in a recent interview:

He admits, however, to being "disgusted" when Avatar failed to carry best film at the recent Oscars. "We (Cameron and Lang) weren’t that surprised because we saw it coming but even so – without offending the other films in question – I thought Avatar was best," he says.

She's right. Its all about getting the PC brownie points. The Oscar voters wanted to "make history." It gets ridiculous. It also lessens the award. In fact, If I was Kathryn Bigelow, I would probably be offended. If I recall, she wanted to win not because she is a woman but because she is a good director. However, Hollywood only sees groups of people, races, genders, etc instead of looking at talent. Its been like this for years .
You wont walk alone
I'll be by your side
There will be no empty home
if you will be my bride
the rest of my life will be
Song for Rapunzel and me.

I see you

^^Nice Colonel

But yea, the Oscars have totally become... how do I say... misleading. I've even seen in past Oscars (I used to be a big movie freak) awards go out to undeserving movies, and it frustrated me, but Avatar was the last string... in my opinion, the Hurt Locker doesn't compare to Avatar, when the end credits rolled to the Hurt Locker I thought, "Thats what everyones been talking about? It was just another war movie to me..." I really didn't feel anything because of it... plus...

Avatar grossed WAY more than The Hurt Locker, and Avatar is still in theaters in some places (That should give you a hint right there)
Avatar had groundbreaking CGI and 3-D experience
Avatar has PAD and PAE (I don't see PHLD [Post Hurt Locker Depression]) that tells you people felt something because of this movie, even to make it onto the news
Avatar has numerous forums, I don't see THL with any...

I could go on, but yea I'm done with the Oscars, the loss of Avatar was the last string for me, it still dominated all those awards in my heart.
And I could understand the frustration of the cast and crew... and I feel bad for them; they spent years making this film

Thanks for the link *prints out for Avatar Folder*

All she is doing is speaking out loud what everyone already knew. It was clear Avatar was in an entirely different class from anything else last year (or ever, IMO).

I think someone was even trash-talking the Avatar actors backstage at the Oscars, saying Avatar was nothing more than voice-acting. Of course, the problem with that is with motion-capture, if the actor or actress shows no emotions, the animators are going to storm the set, screaming "j00 phail, n00b!" That is, the actors have to act the same as they would if there were no head-rig and CGI.

Furthermore, the Oscars have become mostly irrelevant. They like to give voice to small films, which is great, but I think there needs to be another platform for that.

I said much the same in your thread on AF, JakeFanGirl, but you are right that you should move on from the Oscars. I have lost track of the number of times I've read people bashing on the Oscars, and it's gotten old. It also gives a negative impression of Avatar fans to anyone new who might be reading the forums trying to decide whether or not to join. It also suggests that, despite the repeated (and accurate) assertions that the Oscars don't mean that much, you people really care about them.
