Default I Hate Selfrage the most

In My Opinon, more people would be angry at Selfrege than Qurach.

When Jake and Grace were brought back to Hell's Gate when Querech pulled the pluge, when Grace said that the tree of voices was sacrad to the Na'vi more than anyone could imagin, Selfrege just dismisses the concept by refering that the Na'vi are obsesed about some "Pegen Vodoo" culture with a little chuckle in his vioce. That Pissed me off because the audence knew how sacrade it was because we saw it though Jake's eyes and Jake agrees it was sacrade than anyone could imagin.

Then Grace spoke from her heart about her scientific reseach of the global network to back up her statment with so much emotion. And What does Selfrege do, "What the Hell have you guys been smoking out there, they're just god damn trees." and with a Chuckle in his vioce.

When Hometree was distroyed, when the main characters' emotions went so far beyond upset from experencing the hell of a beautiful culture being turned to dust, selfrege casualy says "Pull the pluge!"

At that moment, If I was standing in Hell's Gate, I would Would walk right up the selfrege and Break his jaw. then I would shoot him in both legs, see him flale on the floor, and Kick the living S**t out of him.

He did a great job, pulling off the classic heartless desk jockey role.

"I mean look around! I don't know about you but I see a lot of trees, they can move!"

Selfridge is nothing but a fool.

I didn't think him that evil of a guy. Just doing his job, mostly, and any average person would think,

"Trees that can talk and hold memories? What the hell is she talking about? She's probably just trying to keep me from doing my job; this is getting ridiculous."

I don't hate him much. When he says, "Pull the plug" he's again doing his job. As he saw it, the avatar program was used to befriend the natives so the workers could mine with one less obstacle; that was the only reason it was allowed to be done. With Hometree destroyed, it'd only be natural for Selfridge to order the disconnect since there'd be no point in letting Jake and Grace roam around with no other purpose.

Think about things in his perspective. Please.

well I actually thought he was in the state where he sympathised with the Na'vi but:

a) he did not believe any of the "voodoo stuff", which is not his fault - nor would Jake if he didn't get the training from Neytiri to be able to "see"

b) I imagine him being under constant pressure as the boss of whole operation, RDA wants to see some results too...

Also if you pay attention to his reactions, I thought half of the irony in the reaction to Grace's speech was because he had to 'keep his face' (or how you call it, I don't know exact phrase) before the collective and Quaritch. Can you imagine consequences for him if he just said "alright let's mine elsewhere"? No one on Earth and most of the RDA employees on Pandora wouldn't believe Grace either. There is a deleted scene where he wants to stop Quaritch from loading the shuttle with the bomb pallets, but Quaritch scares him off and takes over (as mentioned by Max). Even the look on his face when boarding the shuttle says "I didn't want it to end like this"

Woodsprite does have a good point. The man is backed into a corner. He has to do his job.

I don't hate Selfridge because he was blinded by his mission for the RDA, a good quarterly statement. His actions can never be condoned but I believe he has a heart deep down inside which the expression on his face shows when he was boarding the shuttle. All my hate and anger would be directed to Quaritch. He killed many innocents and destroyed their home just so he could relive his old days and have a war to fight.

I share your opinion. There were few scenes where it seems (based on facial expression) that Selfridge was feeling some guilt. But not so Quaritch. He was like a crazy killing machine in the second half of the movie.

Anyone have the feeling Selfridge might return in the sequel as a protagonist?

I kinda do.

The sequel won't have any humans in it aside from the few scientists who stayed behind. That's the third movie(although we might see some of earth in A2, who knows.)

I agree, he was just doing his job.

Plus also it seems that in 2154, people seem to be more heartless and numbed to society, where they don't see as much beauty, and because of that they don't know beauty when they see it, unlike Grace, Norm, and then Jake. Jake didn't See, until he Saw for himself

I'm sure if Selfrige was put into Jakes position, he would've Seen as well

All in all Selfrige did what he was supposed to do because it was what he was paid for. If he had showed any sign of weakness he would have been torn to pieces, and would have had serious issue with employees doubting and disobeying him, (even tho he was an ass) but at the end I think he truly realized what he did and was ashamed of it.

Thats just my opinion tho.

Simple. Selfridge is just a slightly less intelligent human being. It's our nature to be greedy, much to my discontent.

Selfridge is an idiot, but Quaritch still did it. When Hometree was destroyed, Selfridge had a real 'WTF have I done?!' look on his face. It's more obvious in the script when Quaritch actually confronts Selfridge and takes over control.
I hate them both.
