Default Reform vs Revolution - What Does The World Need Today?

There's a lot that needs to change in the world, from issues on the environment, to human rights issues, to war, etc. Change must come, that is something that we cannot deny, but what is the best way to bring this change? Should we take the reformation method - working within the political and legal system to bring the change we want? Or should we take the revolutionary method - doing things like civil disobedience (and most likely, unfortunately a bit of violence) to bring the system down, and build a new one from the ground up?

I personally think true revolution is the answer, and here is why. Take the US for example, currently we are trying the reformation method for some of our issues, and if anyone has turned on the news lately, one can see how well it has worked (/sarcasm). The system is broken to the point to which it cannot be repaired from the inside. For years, legislation that would have brought change is continuously shot down by our bought-and-paid-for Congress. And anytime young blood is broght to the fight, promising to change Washington, what happens? They're probably getting kick-backs the same day they take their seat in Congress, and become just another corporatist, answering to big business, not the citizens, whom they should be answering too. To right now we have a situation with a minority group of poeople are getting rich over exploiting mother natue, sensless wars, and crooked insider trading. At the same time you have the majority of Americans, feeling cheated, who are watching their elected official's break the promises they were elected on. At the same time they have to directly experience the consequences of the corrupction-driven actions of the ruling class, such as environmental damage, unjust laws, over taxation, fearmongering, etc., and they are PISSED. And the situation can only get worse of left to continue.

With all this stacked agains't my country, and the countries of you all, I truly think a revolution is in order.

Oh, and I wrote this while under the influence of a sleeping pill (I need to get up early tomorrow), so if it sounds weird...yeah. If anything needs to be cleared up I can do it tomorrow night or on wednesday.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. As far as i'm concerned, the 'system' is far too broken to ever repair with reform.

What we need now is a total collapse of everything so we can rebuild from the ground up. As for the chances of this actually happening...

If people unite against the governments, that could happen.

But for such an outcry of insurrection, we would need a sign, an act, to get these people to unite against a common enemy we all face today:

Modern Society.

We can't revolve, we don't have people who could join us. Why?

First, we are not individuals anymore, there are no free minds. Just masses, we are being mass produced in a system where children are taught to repeat like parrots what they are told -and we reward them for that-, where youngsters buy the same "original" clothing as everyone else, where adults just look for a way to make a living, care just about themselves; and the elderly stay margined at the old people's houses. These patterns are reproduced in all over the world, we act almost the same, and almost never stop for a moment and think. If we do, we eventually forget it and keep this going.

"We can know who is a mass person, by just asking them how they feel; and they will answer that they are happy to be just like the rest of the world, to be "normal", and feel safe being identical to everyone else.

Mass people will only look for their own benefit and at the same time will be completely selfish when it comes to work or give away to achieve such benefit. They act like spoiled children."
- José Ortega y Gasset (translated and edited)

We cannot expect anything from the masses because they don't act by themselves, but rather by their instinct of comfortability; and would rather just follow who could satisfy that lazy desire. Democracy is dying thanks to this: they will vote only to the person who will get the hard work done for them and give them just the good stuff; and only those will win, because they are majority, they are the masses.

If you ask them to revolve, they will respond that it will profit them nothing.

I believe, a change will be only possible from the inside, the deepest reform in our system ever made. That, or we make our own system outside this society.

Those are the only two solutions I can find to this problem. The third way forward which we are already walking by is the way that will lead us to famine, war and death; a way on which we will have to pay back what we've been lent.

Reform. The only problem is people who abuse the existing system.

The world needs people to pick a side. If they're going to regress, do it, they need to stop preaching to others about it and get it done.

The rest who don't wish it, need to knuckle down and push the system forward. Accept what they already support.

As I said before, for either a Reform or Revolution, we need an act to motivate them.

We need a cause and a goal, a final situation to reach; just as the colons fought for their independence and formed the first democracy on the World; or the Russians wanted to get rid of their tzar, and imposed a Socialist regime.

We may be suffering from the worst situation but if we don't have a plan, nor a goal to reach; everything we will do would fall within weeks. Just destroying would lead us to chaos, we need constructors, builders of the new system, too.

One difficulty I see is deciding what the new system will be. It is hard to get people to agree on such things, especially if you will need consensus from large amounts of people.

It never will happen. There will be the people who want things to be to their advantage, there will be collectivists who think individuals should not exist, there will be people who won't even understand, there will be people who don't care and far more... That is the reason there never can be one that will work for everyone.

Reforms are just further promises made trying to calm down the already angry people .

Thus Revolution.

I agree. A reform happened here not long ago. And look what's happened.

Yeah, but a purposeless revolution would be simply regression, chaos. And by regression I don't mean that you simply go back to nature, regression means that you just cut and take out all what we made so far to begin from scratch. Any way directed to a constructive end is progress, any way directed to destructive end is regression.

We need destroyers and builders, both of them. Destroyers for the old system, builders for the new.

If we leave no system, it will be like turning back to the Paleolithic and let History repeat itself again.
