Arrow Armageddon The Movie - Would You Do It?

This debate should make more sense to people who have seen Armageddon. I placed it here because it is more of a debate about the concept than about the movie itself.

Imagine that astronomers discovered a massive asteroid heading toward Earth. The only option is to send a crew up to it, plant a nuclear weapon, and blow it apart. If NASA approached you to be on one of the shuttles being sent to it, would you do it? There are others available to take your place, but they came to you first. If you said no, they could sub you with one of their guys. If you said yes, there is a significant chance that you could die in the process. What would you say?

I would go. I have no fear of death, because my personal belief is that there is something good waiting for me on the other side. Plus, one of my greatest dreams is to walk on another celestial body. It is the greatest adventure I could ever imagine. I'd even volunteer to take Harry's place as the one who stayed behind to detonate it manually.

It's kinda far from our ages this asteroid theory... I watched the movie continously 'till I made my mind to sit on its trajectory and to think that we all have our dreams and that we should follow them whatever the cost.

As Rockhound said : "At least we have front seats to the End of the World, guys" so I would enjoy being the one who blows the asteroid apart and who saves the wonders of our humanity, eventhough it has it negative parts more than positive. This is our world and we must save it, we fight for it. I would go only with one single and unique condition, someone should finish my job I was made to finish on Earth.

I seem to recall that Armageddon doesn't have good science in it. Blowing up an asteroid with a nuke would not help matters. In fact, it would make things worse because instead of having one large asteroid to deal with, you would have many smaller asteroids to deal with. I remember watching a program about asteroids and there was some talk about this. What would be better, possibly, would be to somehow "push" the asteroid away from earth. That could mess up the trajectory, hopefully making a better trajectory than the one that it was previously on. How we would go about deflecting an asteroid still remains to be developed.

I'd ask why the hell they want a college student majoring in history.

LOL. We are not really known for our ability to deal with a situation like that. We prefer big, giant tomes of books, pouring over resources or visiting historical sites all to do some big massive paper that will end up being a headache .

Like I said, the movie was just the example. The bigger question is: "Would you put your life on the line to save the Earth, and possibly lose it in the process?"

This was the only movie I had cried at for that very reason. It was so unbelievably sad. I have to say that if it was a choice like that, so that my daughter could live the life she wants with the man that she wanted, I would do it without a shadow of a doubt. I know already that I will do anything for my children, despite the fact that I have no children

Armageddon was a terrible film.
The only thing that made it bearable were the clever comments by this man -

"Guess what guys, it's time to embrace the horror! Look, we've got front row tickets to the end of the earth!"

I agree with that disagreement. Armageddon was a very good film. And, yeah, that guy gave some comic relief but I found him to be a bit annoying at time. He was always interrupting good scenes with that nasal voice of his

It is not just some guy... it is Steve Buscemi... walking legend - and Amageddon is a great flick with great music.

Okay maybe it wasn't terrible. But I don't think it was great.
Maybe I just really really despise Ben Affleck

Ben acts like a child in the movie... "Gut following instincts" kinda guy And I agree with Harry when he says "There's no job in this world I would want you around me, AJ".

This. Yeah, the science was pretty bad, but it had a lot of heart and a good love story. The characters were pretty memorable too, like Lev, Bear, and Rockhound.

Plus, yeah, the music rocked. Trevor Rabin is up there with James Horner when it comes to soundtracks.

As long as you didn't expect anything more out of it than a fun summer action movie, Armageddon was a lot of fun to watch. Though I prefer Deep Impact when it comes to asteroid impact movies.
