Default Organic farming: working in harmony with nature is scientific fact

Two recent articles in "Science" and "BioScience" support claims, that organic farming in a balanced ecosystem in harmony with nature is possible and not a romanticized ideal. They show that the "web of life" can provide adequate protection for the plants grown for human consumption:
:
On organic coffee farm, complex interactions keep pests under control
'Balanced' ecosystems seen in organic agriculture better at controlling pests, research finds

Quote:
As the research team continues to discover more species that are part of the web and more complex direct and indirect interactions among all the members, it's increasingly clear that the "naïve" view of nature working in harmony closely matches the scientific facts.

This is very interesting. I've heard people who grow organic food say this for a while now. It's nice to have some studies to back it up, though. However, It kind of seems like it should be common sense. If you do things the way nature intended, then of course it will work. People have been farming organically for about 10,000 years now. We shouldn't even need studies to prove what has already been proven.

Anyway, this was a very interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

Well - yes, it is common sense, but obviously people lost their common sense a while ago
But reading that I definitely had an "Avatar moment" thinking of Grace talking about the planet beeing alive and everything connected and others not believing it. I think, you will find many people who will claim that without industrial and chemical farming "millions will die"

Ha ha! That is true. Common sense is now uncommon sense

Yeah, I have a hard time believing "millions will die". More like, "millions will be lost in profit"

Aren't Avatar moments cool, though? I had one just the other day.
