Default Biodiversity loss causes humans to become sick

According to a new study on the impact on biodiversity on health
Quote:
For humans and other species to remain healthy, it will take more than a village -- we need an entire planet, the scientists say, one with its diversity thriving.
We live in a world in which
Quote:
[g]lobal biodiversity has declined at an unprecedented pace since the 1950s. Current extinction rates are estimated at 100 to 1,000 times higher than in past epochs, and are projected to increase at least a thousand times more in the next 50 years.
The researchers found that
Quote:
species losses in ecosystems such as forests and fields result in increases in pathogens -- disease-causing organisms
(Source: Loss of species large and small threatens human health, study finds)

So basically if we kill the living planet, we kill ourselves (duh - could have guessed so) and by hurting and diminishing the natural world, we actually increase the threats to human health. As a conclusion, preserving biodiversity is not merely a nice thing in terms of doing a good deed or enjoying nature, but is critical to the survival of our species as well.

Greetings, Aurora

Technology will come to our rescue. But that doesn't justify the destruction of the ecosystem, it needs to stop.

Haha - yeah. Humans will end up in airtight sterilized bubbles that enclose cities containing a solar driven life support system and industrial conveyor belt indoor agriculture and people will be genetically altered to resist all bacteria and possible threats - or even better we will all just become androids, then feelby biology cannot harm us anymore.

... NOT...
