Default World's first dark sky community

AFP - Channel island named first 'dark sky' community

Sounds really interesting. I love going to places with no lights for miles around and being able to see nothing but stars and the Milky Way up above. The desert areas of southern California are great for that sort of thing; I once saw the Leonid meteor shower there.

I just learned about 'Dark Sky' Preserves (or communities) this summer. We are quite proud to have one here in Saskatchewan in Cypress Hills!

Here's a wiki article includes World List of Dark Sky Preserves:

What this world really needs is more artists and environmentalists!

"Its only 'here' that we lose perspective, out at the Cosmic Consciousness Level things get a lot clearer. For example, there is an actual star pattern that is traced in the shape of a Willow Tree, across the breadth of the Milky Way! And no wonder Indigenous peoples refer to the 'here after' as the Happy Hunting Grounds! Has it ever occured to anyone why the bioluminescence dots, on the Na'vi!"

Interesting. Reminds me of when I was out miles away from anywhere before, and I never realised the night sky was so bright by itself... The number of stars that get drowned out even by low light is huge.

Get to a dark enough location, with a long exposure photo, and the night sky will cast shadows!
