The indigenous people living at the site of Belo Monte Dam project have occupied the planned construction site and used direct action, civil disobedience and other peaceful measures to shut down operations. As of yet, they were not met with violence. The construction is going on despite protests and even judges making decisions against the project. I think the companies just assume that in the end they will manage to make the decisionmakers follow their plan, so there is no need to stop constructing. AMAZON WATCH AMAZON WATCH ![]() There is a call for solidarity, though I am not sure what they really want to do with that, but here it is: AMAZON WATCH (Seems like they want people to make parties as a kind of protest) ... I so hope this will become more like what happened in Bolivia than what happened in Avatar (well ok, if they win in the end, it would be ok if it is like in Avatar of course, but the chances are somewhat limited)

Yesterday.
Protesters Strike Again At Brazil's 'Pandora' Dam In Amazon - Forbes ![]() Only delaying the inevitable though I’m afraid. I think enough’s already been said about the attitude of Brazil’s Federal Government, but yet again they demonstrate their ruthless single mindedness in choosing to ignore the wider picture. ‘Can’t see the wood for the trees’, anyone? 516 square km of virgin rain forest removed, tribes evicted and species lost. This is truly awful.

If only I could load up my 11-87 and head down there and fight till my last breath.......
Seriously, I would but I am unable to. I really feel awful, for the people, and also for the fact that there's nothing I can do to help.

Yes, I too wish I could do something to help.
I wish the people protesting lots of good luck! I still can't believe the govt of Brazil is going ahead with building that dam. This is sad, very sad only.
