Default Greenpeace apologises to people of Peru over Nazca lines stunt

Greenpeace has apologised to the people of Peru after the government accused the environmentalists of damaging ancient earth markings in the country’s coastal desert by leaving footprints in the ground during a publicity stunt meant to send a message to the UN climate talks delegates in Lima.

All for basically two catch phrases and "Greenpeace" under them

Wow. The gov't of Peru is so concerned about this yet we got dams being built, the Amazon getting torn down, and oil leaking in the rivers and the gov't's in SA ain't doing much but pushing for more.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's wrong what they did but it's just funny how the gov't jumps into action to stop this so quickly and not for the more severe damage being done, like over-logging, oil spills, and stuff like that.

I haven't heard about any dams in Peru.

There are no dams in Peru...yet.

Peru does have rampant deforestation, largely from mining at the moment.

Peru slashes environmental protections to attract more mining and fossil fuel investment

peru news

On topic, I'm surprised greenpeace didn't think that through. It's really old primitive paint on dry soils...not epoxy or something.

What I meant was why do they show so much concern for greenpeace walking on this land when there's over-logging, mining, dams being built, oil leaks, etc going on throughout the country that are BIGGER issues than what greenpeace did.

Oh, that's obvious.

Greenpeace made a misstep in their quest to defame Peru for its grievous wrongdoings, and so their opponents are moving to capitalize on that mistake to make Greenpeace look bad.

I don't think The Guardian is reporting on the issue to further that agenda, but I'm sure that somebody is.
