Default Finishing Bao's Neytiri 3D Model

Back in 2010/2011 there's were a guy named "Bao" who started making a 3d model of Neytiri, he did great work on it, but he stopped working on it, so he never finished it, don't know why, but before that he was kind enough to share it. The good news is that the hardest part of modeling her likeness has been already been done by him, just have to do UVs, Texturing and Rigging. The bad news is that my 3d skills are not that good, in fact I don't know how to do it yet, so I will have to learn it, and also don't have a lot of free time, so it might take some time, if I don't quit like he did. Here are some pics.

If it can be completed that would be awesome. Have it as close to the movie style as possible.

I'm a professional 3D modeler - though I don't use Blender, feel free to ask for advice at any time

That is good to hear, what do you model at your work? I suspect you could finish this model in a day.

As of now I do not believe that its available anywhere, If you need it for 3d printing, it would be useless to have a model in such static pose. I seen a few places where low quality fan made models were available to download.

Maybe, texturing work will be very important, the thing is that I don't have much experience in photoshop or any other photo software.

Good start! Are you planning to using a traditional or PBR workflow? Could get some pretty interesting results with separate emission maps for the sanhì

Yes, Cycles Render is PBR, you can see what my shader made of on the right, only 2 maps. I was trying in blender painting tools, which also has texture project, I have to do some work, like fixing the right ear, before any serious texturing.

Look forward to see how she turns out. I started modeling my own model here aswell a few years ago (woa time flies). Its been a great way to learn more about 3D work. I'm using Maya tho so i dont think i could help much unfortunatly. Enjoy!

I got this model around the time when you started work on yours, so its been some time that I felt that I can do something with it. Seeing your model motivated me a bit. I do encounter a lot of problems sure, but there so much content online that I don't have to ask here. Also have you used HDRI lighting on your model, I don't believe I have see it.

I found some navi texture online, and I put that in without doing any UV's, I think it turned out well. Will try to do textures later.

Had a few problems with the mesh, spend a lot of time trying to fix it. Mirror modifier made a lot of micro holes, then when applying scale, eyes normals were flipped, also had to redo ear. Most of that is fixed now.

Here how the mesh looks like when you subdivide it.

Thx! Yeah watching some 3D or a cg movie always helps for motivation!
No i dont use HDR. Would improve some stuff but i got things complicated enough already and i really just want fast render times. For my animation i do atleast 5 renders per frame. So i got 125 frames to render per second and i need a few minutes in total. Its all about speed for me

True, lots of good stuff on youtube. Fun project to learn more about 3D. I got alot from it
