Default What was Quaritch drinking?

One has to ask because as we know in the Earth of Avatar universe there is nothing but humans and stinking genetically grown algae, so it obviously was not coffee nor tea as none of those things exist any longer.

So what do humans in that time serve as hot drinks? Their own urine?

artificial coffee.
and there are more than 2 species on earth.
by the original script, they had REAL steak on earth.
so big buisnesses probably have fields for accelerated mass production of things.

How can they have real steak when according to the survival guide there is nothing but humans and algae living on Earth at that time? It cannot possibly be real steak but artificially grown meat but again that would be impossible as everything other than humans and algae is extinct so no genetic material to make such a thing from is available either. Cows cannot survive in the toxic environment, there no more pastures, not even a single blade of grass so nothing to make feed from either, again completely and totally impossible given the facts on the ground.

Hydroponics are a common practice in this day and age. Its perfectly reasonable to assume that humanity knows how to thrive in such conditions, we are nothing if adaptable.

Hell's Gate grows it's own coffee, they grow all of their food on spot. 100% self-sufficient.

Look the guide says very clearly that there is nothing remaining alive on Earth at that time other than humans and algae, there is no soy, no coffee, no cows no nothing, so all he could have been drinking is his own urine at best or his own vomit.

Heck Grace's scotch was probably from an old bottle and they are probably almost out of any spirit drinks by then too as Algae is all there is.

The alcohol is probably synthetic then and thus not very good at all because there is nothing alive that one could ferment save humans and algae, period.

Plus bars probably still have ever diminishing stockpiles of the old stuff. Once that's gone is down to artificially flavored chemicals and algae, heck at that point a bottle of drano would be tastier than any of the stuff they will have.

I understand where you are getting your info, but how could humans survive if the only living species left are them and algae? That doesnt make sense to me...

wait just remembered, are they having to wear exo packs on earth as well?

The genetically grown chemo-synthetic algae is the only food source, have no clue as to how they produce oxygen, as there is no more green plants to create oxygen anymore either. My guess is they produce it from the sludge that used to be the oceans to pressurize buildings on the inside. So yes both in Pandora and Earth people live of canned air exclusively. And yes there is only 2 lifeforms. Humans and algae.

Synthetic coffee, I guess. Alternatively, if the actual plants were preserved (there are projects today to preserve samples of all the world's plant species) then it could be real coffee grown locally on Pandora.

In JC's Avatar Universe no measures of any kind were ever taken. He did this deliberately to show how Earth would end looking like if we didn't. But the point is that in the Avatar universe Earth there is no life other than humans and the genetically enhanced Chemosynthesis based algae RDA grows as the one and only food source. And we never saw any greenhouses on Hell's gate because as Jake pointed out Earth is dead and there is nothing left again other than humans and stinking algae.
