Default What happened to the miners and laborers during the attack at Hell's gate?

We know what happened to what remained of SecOps but what happened to the 1000s of miners and laborers during that attack. Did they ended up as collateral damage of this incident with many ending up killed as a result? Does anyone know?

I doubt it! They are not trained to fight to begin with. But I keep forgetting that SecOps is not the US army but a band of thugs, I'm betting the bastards gave the miners weapons and told them to fight or else they would be shot end of story. My point is if it happened I doubt SecOps gave them much of a choice in the matter. Don't call them Marines, they do not deserve to be called that, they were behaving like Nigerian Death squads and not like marines.

They're referred to as marines. /shrug Its just a name.

According to the script, the miners were actually whipped up into a pretty nasty blood-lust. They were fighting for survival. (at least that's what they were told : /)

Fear and propaganda! How it come the scientists never came clean and told what really happened to the workforce though? Grace knew she could have/should have spilled the beans, why didn't she?

In the script we know that Grace was the teacher of the school and that Neytiri's older sister was shot there under Quaritch's orders. So she knew how despicable RDA SecOps was, again why didn't she say anything.

Because, Sylwain was committing an act of sabotage...

Which probably killed several miners. So...

according to the script it was a Remotely operated truck so there should not have been human casualties. I wonder which side drew first blood still shooting kids dead at a school is beyond reprehensible. They could have detained her, but Quaritch being a Psycho would have never thought about it.

I'm not going to lie, if somebody came up and started randomly blowing up equipment, possibly trying to blow me up, I'm not just going to sit there happily.

We're talking about people, not cardboard cutouts.

So in your opinion all the miners were killed then? That's over 20,000 people! Quartich's little army barely had 2000 men if not less.

And yet the top execs and pencil pushers such as Selfridde are allowed to return even though is because of them all those people are now dead and their sons and daughters orphaned and without bread winners? That just blows I would have shot the f*cker on the spot myself if that is the case.

I never said they were all killed. Plenty would have survived.

Having rewatched it last night, and looking remembering the battle scenes... there is no way that there were 20k people involved on the human side. What I suspect may have happened is that Quaritch rolled all of the mercs, using his entire Sec-Ops force on the attack on the Tree of Souls. The miners and support workers would then have been withdrawn to the base at Hell's Gate, which would have been easier to defend for the less militaristically trained civilians. The miners and the rest would then be involved in the operation without actually being in the front line.

Quaritch was dismissive of the Na'vi and their abilities and so may well have felt that he only needed his own men to handle the job.

If I am right, that means that the miners and support workers were all still there (mostly) when the victorious Na'vi forces arrived and may have been posted back to Earth with Selfridge at the end of the movie.

What do people think?

Something tells me that even if drafted most would not have had the stomach to fight especially since the Avatar Drivers and Scientific personnel revolted and took over as well.

Well, according to the script, most were more than happy to be armed and fight.
