Question Why clone extint Animals and plants if Earth is dead as Jake claimed?

I know most here go with what Jake said plus what little has surfaced online of the guide and the few pics of a nameless city of Avatar Earth to reach the conclusion as I once did that Earth is a lifeless rock. But as it turns out both the script and the guide speak of animals that had become extinct and had been brought back through cloning or where in the process off. So it is clear that they were cloning animals and plants that become extinct, the question is why bother if Earth according to Jake (if we are to take his words literally) is nothing but a lifeless rock?

Well , obviously they are trying to clone them because they got annihilated by mankind and they "want" them back because they need them .

Really why would they need Bengal tigers and Blue whales and why can't you admit that it is a bit odd to recreate such extinct creatures just for the the sake off, there has to be a purpose behind it, and there is.But I know most of you will just continue to ignore the facts and simply go on what Jake said period and ignore all else.

And just how extreme can you get in your thinking? Pollution and climate change is what killed most species in the movie not that humans went out of their way to willfully wipe them all out.

Well , what Jake said is a fact too , besides it's pretty much open how to interpret how earth might look in pandoran times , so I just tried to interpret it my way with the data I had .

And nevertheless , mankind wiped them out , they knew they were killing tons of species , but they just ignored that .

My opinion: Cash. The RDA love cash, and people would love a chance to see extinct animals. I'm willing to bet a lot of people in our current age would jump at the chance to see a cloned dinosaur. They'd be willing to pay for it, too. Hell, people already pay to see animals that aren't extinct, yet. It could also open up doors for medical experimentation and such.

Alternative: It could be a gaping inconsistency in the Avatar story, and that's why they chopped it from the final cut. It's just a movie, afterall. An incredibly expensive movie, I'll give you that, but there's always room for mistakes.

Except that a Blue Whale needs an immense habitat if that were the case the cost alone would be prohibitive along with the costs of cloning plankton just to feed that creature alone. It would end up as something only the Super Rich could afford so ultimately not a viable option as a reason.

No because it is in both the Script and the survival guide it did not make it to the movie because then you would have ended with a far longer movie and they would have had to chop it in 2 volumes like they did with Kill Bill. All this things will most likely end up being covered in the sequels.

well, think about how much people would pay to see it. if its cheap, then you have lots of little bits, if its not, then you have a few big bits.

Are you void of all rational thought and just obsessed with the Earth portrayed in a MOVIE?

People will pay to see ANYTHING, and there is always someone who will do something you find ridiculous. Hence you find cloning something such as a blue whale stupid and pointless while one person thinks it the most amazing thing in the world.

Edit: Is the Survival Guide even written by James Cameron?

Is not just the guide but the script and both are considered canon sources and anybody that thinks that a blue whale would be cloned for the entertainment of 2 or 3 people in the world that could afford it is beyond insane.

There is nothing new they could learn from a cloned animal whatsoever.

Maybe he exagerated?
It creates a more dramatic effect you know, more likely to get Eywa on-side that way

That is what I'm beginning to believe as well, that he exaggerated a bit to get Eywa to fight.
