Default Memories from a life you never had?

I don't know if this is a rare case or a common occurence but do you have any memories of things you apparently never experienced?

This has happened to me. I remember being on a balcony of a wooden house out in a forest, Evergreen trees surround this house and there seems to be only a dirt and gravel road in and out of the area. Im young, like 7 or 8 years of age and Im holding a fishing rod (weird, I know) and I seem to be lowering something down to what appears to be my older brother and another child (my youngest brother would've been in a pram). My grandparents are there, well my grandad is anyway. He's admiring the trees around him and he has that typical content look on his face. My parents are nowhere to be seen.

I told my family about this memory I had and I drew a picture of what is was but they said we were never at such a place nor experienced anything like that.

It doesn't feel like a dream, dreams are a lot more vague. This is definitely a memory, I know I experienced this sometime when I was young but apparently I didn't

Now Im not the one for believing the supernatural crap or reincarnation but could this be a memory from a previous life? I'm not sure.

You may have just had a dream about this happening a while back and it just stuck to you in the form of a memory. I doubt it really happened at one point in your life if your family said it didn't. Hmmm...this is interesting. Kind of like reverse deja vu.

Or you could go the AC route and say its an ancestral memory?

I'd say it was just a dream, some can feel so real you won't even tell the difference. I once had a dream of not falling into sleep and the next morning I could swear on my life I was awake the whole night. Apparently I wasn't according to my parents, but I'm still not sure if I really was or not. I doubt it's from your previous life, because your grandfather wouldn't look like your actual grandfather, or would he?

I could've been a dream. If it was it was my most vivid and detailed yet and I've remembered it for a good 8 years. There are a few problems with it being a dream; my brothers aren't my brothers in the dream and my parents arent even in it. I know dreams are really freaky at times but this one I cant even relate to. Weird.

Aihwa, that ancestral route thing sounds awesome, and a possibility.

You know, my father and his father have been musicians their entire lifes. I, personally, can't play an instrument too well since I need to devote loads of time into it (truthfully, i have spent time on it but there is always problem with the strings or the guitar is out of tune giving me an inaccurate sound, which I don't know how to fix.) but when I play, I feel like I can any song. Sometimes, when I jam, I can play stuff that I never looked up or heard on the radio. It's mostly nice, simple riffs but their catchy and Reggae sounding. Id like to call this ancestral memory.

Believe it or not I'm experienced in this! I studied psychic phenomenon in college and discovered that my side of the family have some latent abilities, mostly on the female side. (Don't laugh, this is absolutely true and I can cite several incidences!)
Since it involved your granddad and brother, it's not likely that it was a memory from a past life. I have memories of situations that I was in when I was little that my brothers don't remember happening, so it's entirely possibly the memory was vivid for you but not important for them.
A past life memory would involve other people and places, incidents that are in a different time period. Here's a question, how old does your granddad look? Is he younger than he should be? Are you sure it's him and perhaps someone who you substituted with your granddad? What kind of clothes are you wearing? Do you remember having clothes like that?
I'm not trying to debunk you but help you figure out the details of what you 'saw' to pinpoint it better.

Don't discount it just because your family doesn't remember the incident. On the other hand, don't obsess over it either.

But that's the thing; my brothers aren't my brothers in it and my granddad doesn't look like what I remember either. The reason why I've been able to remember it is because it's so foreign to me, I dont really recognise anything from it and usually dreams involve something that you experienced or remember.

I dont know what to believe. I could say it was just a crazy dream from my crazy childhood but I would still feel that something's not right with the dream. Saying it was a vision from a previous life is probably an extreme assumption, Im sure someday I'll find out it was from a movie or something.

Haha strangly enough my favourite album (Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory) is about a guy who goes to a hypnotist to find more about a dream he had about his previous life. Freaky Deeky eh?

Nah, it's a dream you remember... or a movie or tv show you say once (like you said).

I personally remember a nightmare I had about an evil robot looking at me from 40 feet away, two rooms from where I was standing, while there was a party going on in the dark in my parents' bedroom. Had that dream about 14 years ago and it's still a memory to me, as clear in my mind now as it was then. But that doesn't make it an actual experience I had.

There are many moments when I can't remember whether something was a dream or not. The same thing's going on w/you. Just your imagination gone awry.

See, that sounds to me even more like the AC reasoning.

Because if your remembering say your own father or grandfathers memories, then you'd remember him recognizing the people around you without actually being able to place them yourself.

Not sure about this, but I've had dreams that I later found out paralelled things in my waking life. Like a few weeks ago I had a (f***ing awesome) dream I was Gordon Freeman and I was breaking out of a Combine facility (though oddly Portal turrets were there ) with two women. Yesterday I was on the Half Life wiki and found out that Freeman did have two female collegues, and they looked exactly like the women from the dream. Freaky.

When you have a precognitive dream (dreaming about something that happens in the future) you 'know' the people in it then but you don't know them now. So it has that sort of familiar feel to it but you don't know the people now.
I've had a dream like that come true, very freaky.
As for having a past life dream, not so unusual really, mostly younger people and children have those kinds of dreams because they haven't built up as much 'trash' and 'cover' over the part of the brain that's open to that sort of line. Adults just call it a dream or 'fantasy' and tell the child it isn't real.
Go ahead and write it down, put it somewhere obvious (not 'safe' because it's always the last place you think of looking) and don't worry about it. You can think about that scene when you go to bed if you want and see if you can go back to that.
I studied this sort of thing for three years (I think more) for both a writing class and for the study itself. There's more to life than just this one, keep your options and your mind open. If you believe there's a Pandora planet out there, this is just as incredible and a bit more real than that planet.
