Exclamation Avatar the Game - My take on it

If you don't have a decent computer with a good graphics card. Don't bother. It will just lag a bit even on the lowest setting.

I bought it the other day and it's got some mixed feelings.

While you DO get to explore Pandora and many other levels... the story line does not follow Jake or Ney... (because it was released December 9th) but you do get to pick your side. You can be for the Na'vi or RDA (humans). I picked the Na'vi and now the guy is telling me it was a bad idea. Haha.

Anyway, when I first started playing the control was a bit funky. Let's say you are in 3rd person mode... your character is in the middle of the screen and you can move around in a 3D environment.. Now move that character spot from the center to the left. So it's in between the center center and left left. So it's left center. I thought it was weird but I got use to it.

The cool thing about the game (like I said before) is the exploring part. You can also collect MANY MANY data and explore MANY MANY worlds/levels and see it all in your fancy GUI Pandorapedia. The game's GUI is VERY VERY nice. It's the best one I have ever seen. It works so fluid and it's just well done overall.

The gameplay can be great but the quest line can be boring. You earn XP by defeating enemies of your opposing faction. If you are a Na'vi and you kill monsters/plants ... you don't get XP. If you kill as a human then you do. You can earn XP to gain new skills, weapons, armor, and Intel. Personally I think that's cool because I'm an RPG nerd. But the quests are like any other RPG. Go to X, talk to Y or Kill X of Ys. But there are some odd quests which are fun. The storyline for either faction is 6-7 hours to complete.

Then it's multiplayer time! You need a ubi.com to play multiplayer. I haven't tried it. But if it's like any other multiplayer (team up, shoot other players, etc).. then it won't be amazing at best but enough to satify your Avatar needs.

So in conclusion, if you want to relive Avatar in your own way; explore Pandora; explore the vehicles, weapons, culture, wildlife, etc... get this game. But don't get it because you love games but because you love Avatar.

Hope you liked my review on the game. :-)
There wasn't a thread to talk about this...

Have you played it for the Ps3? I haven't played the PC version but it sounds great. The Ps3 was alittle frustrating XD. I do agree that the exploring [I'm guilty for flying aimlessly on my ikran for hours lol] part of the game is the best part. Its also great to learn about the Flora and Fauna. Not a good game in the traditional fighting game style but good in the information department.

The best part of this game was the Pandorapedia imo, it does a good job of explaining some of the RDA tech and Pandora biology.

But some of the plot details are completely wrong

really fun game. i spent hours completing each level to 100% and the points you collect can be spent on that minigame, although it's really hard to overtake territories once you get around 25% because freakin RDA keeps attacking fffuuu. I still need to play it completely as a human fighting for the RDA, so when i get time that's my first thing to do

I've played the PC game. While the Storyline is.... ****, for the RDA, there are MAJOR differences between the factions.

What I've noticed:

Playing with the RDA is essentially 'hard mode'. You deal with plants, animals, strong Na'vi warrior's, and all weapons except the wasps use ammo.

I've played both campaigns, and finished both. If you do, you get 'Echo Chasm'.

It's a sort-of fun game but I don't really think of it as canon. Every so often I would get a little burst of Pandora-feeling while playing it but for the most part I didn't find it really gelled with what we see in the movie. Would much prefer some kind of intricate first-person RPG that really tries to replicate something like Jake's experiences in the film.

I just finished the game the other day on the Na'vi story line.

My take on it is that it was rushed. The characters are kinda meh, even the character you play. I find his dialogue to be pretty hot-headed for someone who survived death and given his gift-IMHO.

I did like exploring Pandora though. There was one part, I don't remember which where its at night and you are like at a place similar to the tree of voices. I really liked that part. Explored it all.

Things I don't like is no Tshahaylu with the creatures. The Ikran flying seems kinda lame. One time it took me like 5 minutes to try and get it to land. I think it would have added tons more to the game if you had a female/male companion following you through most of the game, at least to me.

I really liked the way the XP and different weapons and armor and skill stuff worked though. Lots of neat skills. Calling a thanator to help you fight is awesome.

But, IMHO, it was to short. I would have really thought it to be cool after you find the lost Tree of souls to join jake and neytiri in there fight against the RDA.

There was lots of room for easy improvement but I liked it nonetheless.

I had it for Xbox 360.

I just can't bring myself to play RDA. I can't go on blowing up inoccent lives and see an amazing culture being turned to dust by my hands. After I finished the game as Na'vi, I started back at the choice checkpoint. I had my crossaires on Harper with my finger on the mouse button and held there for about 5 or 10 seconds. I thought about what would happen if i did it: all the helpless na'vi being killed by macince guns, seeing the carnage of died villagers, na'vi running around engulfed in flames and seeing Dragons and scorpions blasting the Hell out of the villages with little or no survivers afterwords.....
..... I just simply said "Screw This!" and shot Falco and did everthing on Na'vi all over agian.

Anyways, I think it was prity good starting off but as it progressed the missions grew more of the same and the ending was definatly rushed.
Spoiler: ending

Yeah, it's certainly nowhere near as good as it can be... I really kept getting annoyed at how little the character seemed to care about anything...
All the other characters were fairly meh too... It was still a good game, I still played through it 3 or 4 times, but had far more potential...

I'd really liked to have seen the character care a bit more... Maybe start by being fairly conflicted about fighting the humans, then end up enthusiastic and actually seeming to care about the Na'vi and stopping the humans. One part I did like there was the armour, how you unlocked different ones and gradually became more Na'vi

The lack of detail was also irritating (no tsaheylu with the ikran/pa'li (and flying any ikran for that matter) and mistakes with the Na'vi language), but I suppose it WAS released before the actual film...
Spoiler: ending

I didn't play the human storyline either, I have literally zero interest in doing so. I could never fight against the Na'vi like that, and anyway, I like killing the RDA too much for that

I did like Pandora, particularly the part in the forest at night with the bioluminescence
The detail with the species and plants was something I liked, it was more accurate than some of the game, having the same information as the survival guide.

Also, about the human campaign, from what I heard, it's easier due to the weapons you have (certainly, the number would make it VERY hard to actually run out of everything if you're a decent gamer from just seeing the list of weapons available for the RDA side, especially if the maps were the same because there were ammo dispensers everywhere...)

Not that the Na'vi campaign was actually hard either though. I could have completed the entire campaign with just the bow and knives (possibly the crossbow for scorpions but could still have done it without that) without any real difficulty, although I did use every weapon and skill just because they were there

Overall, a good game, but certainly could have been better.

I play it all the time. In fact I just got done. It's a lot of fun there are some problems like the Na'vi do not have queues ETC. But as a whole the game is fun! name is DJ18-USMC if any of you want to play!

Uh, are there two different games? 'Cause I have the one for the Wii, and you can't play the RDA side, not that I'd want to.

BTW, isn't there kind of an irony in playing a video game about living in and defending Nature?

Though this forum and the movie itself also qualify

Yes the Wii is different from all the consoles and PC. The Wii is only capable of so much so they had to make a different game.

Lol, when I did the Na'vi campaign, I didn't use the crossbow at all.

Hint: Aim for the Missile racks.
