Default The one thing i would have changed about the Special Edition

I had this thought while watching the SE for a second time yesturday....

the special edition with all the new footage was epic, amazing, and beautiful! but there's one thing i would change.

That is, i would change when the Tsu'tey death scene takes place. I actually think it would flow better right before the Neytiri and quaritch final battle.

By having the tsu'tey death scene after the quaritch battle and Neytiri/Jake "i see you" scene killed the emotion and sense of completion those scenes had built up. I feel that if Cameron were to have placed the tsu'tey death scene before those two scenes, the whole war battle sequence would have ended on a strong emotional and more complete note.

>>Now to actually make the tsu'tey death scene fit before the quaritch and "i see you" scene.
it could have been that neytiri was riding the thanator around and finds the other na'vi gathered around tsu'tey, she calls jake on her commlink and jake joins them around tsu'tey. then they do the death scene as it played out in the special edition.
Then neytiri, mad with rage and anger over tsu'tey's death, gets back on her thanator and runs off to chase down quaritch, and that would lead right into the final quaritch battle and "i see you" scene.

did that make sense? idk, i feel that would have made more sense and flowed better. wish jim cameron could read this lol, even though i know there's he can really do about it.

I don't think Tsu'tey's death scene would have fit anywhere else because of how the scene was executed.

YES. Exactly right. Oel ngati kameie Nulkrr'zo.
It would have made the I See You scene so much better if it were in a different place.

Wow, that sounds exactly like what I said before about the scene placement. (Or better explained here. ) Welcome to ToS!

Of course, you're right Vaktu, in that it wouldn't have fit anywhere else the way it was filmed... but it shouldn't have been written that way in the first place. If Cameron had the incredible mind to think up such a wonderful story, he at least has to have the brains to know where else to fit the scene, while tweaking its context a bit; it can't just be us who're having these simple ideas... which is why it's very strange how Cameron didn't do it himself. Sure, the animation was already done for the scene, but shouldn't he have caught that earlier before major animation was done for the scene?

Anyway, yes. I agree.

EDIT: Hey! Wudduya know; this is my 1,400th post!

What if there was some more footage between the two scenes that wasn't shown in the re-release?

Of course... which we will see possibly in the next dvd/bd issue. And the novel of course.
Did I mention that I'm really, really stoked about the novel? Of course I did. hehehe.

It would make no sense, especially when you consider what Quaritch is (isn't) doing during that time. Is he going to sit around waiting for Neytiri to show up?
Jake would be rushing to stop Quaritch anyway, knowing he probably survived.

The scene is very similar to the original script, Cameron executed it very well in the time frame, and for the amount of money he had to limit himself to (1 million dollars a minute.)

I agree with a lot in the OP, though it didn't occur to me that the scene might have been better placed along the movie's timeline. I thought that there could have at least been a better transition from the "I see you" moment to Tsu'tey's death. Maybe a fade-to-black in between the two scenes.

Also, Tsu'tey's death really changed my mood during the ending. In the original cut, I was always feeling more or less happy as the movie drew to a resolution and close. But the added scene...man, the things that Tsu'tey said just wrecked me, the movie didn't feel like it could have the same ending, with Jake smiling as he mentions his 'birthday party.' I know in an earlier version of the script, Jake talks about a funeral. I don't think Avatar SE needed to end with a funeral, just maybe some added dialogue that would help smoothly guide the viewer's emotions into the undoubtedly happy ending that is Jake's permanent transition to his avatar body. All I could think about as the credits rolled was Tsu'tey's dying words.

I agree, the scene did kind of take away the emotional effect of when Neytiri sees Jake for the first time in his true form and saves him. I loved the Tsu'Tey scene very much, it was very touching and sad, but I think JC made the right choice by not including it in the original release.

It didn't do that for me... I don't know, maybe because I was already crying from the battle and then Jake and Neytiri, I guess...

You didn't?

Let's see... Seze dying, Trudy dying, Tsu'tey falling...
The Na'vi running

Then...
"EYWA HAS HEARD YOU!!!!!"
Everything about that bit... so epic - even the music changing fits it perfectly... It makes me cry out of pure emotion and happiness
