The scenes were probably cut before they finalized the mix. The audio on the Bluray is most likely a placeholder or test.

I wish they would release the directors cut SE in Blu-ray 3D , I have had the Special Edition release for quite some time and its content has seeded a lot of interesting dialog on the story as a whole.

I'm disappointed that the only version released on Blu-ray in 3D was the original theatrical release and not the Special Edition Theatrical re-release with the extra scenes. Since this version already exists in 3D, it would have been nice to have been added as part of the Collector's Edition box set. Now that 3D TV is dead, there's not much hope of ever getting another 3D version.

It's mandatory that any friends of ours that we find out have never seen Avatar have to come over and watch it, but we're always conflicted as whether to show them the immersive 3D version, or the 2D extended edition with all of the rather important extra plot points.
