Default The Na'vi you

Just an idea I had... take a screencap of the film somewhere, of a Na'vi (one of the background ones, not a main character) who, if you were a Na'vi, you would be. Write a bit about them if you like, or just post the picture - mention what scene they are from as well if you like, so people can see them in the film if they want to. If you notice someone else in another scene, mention that too, as there are quite a few that seem to appear in multiple scenes.

Here's 'me':

(From when Grace is speaking to Tsu'tey before Jake and Neytiri arrive at Hometree)

I imagine he's a hunter and loves to fly on his ikran, and fought the skypeople in the end

Hmmm. Does it have to be 'as if I were a Na'vi', or can we just pick one of the Na'vi in the background and spin a, well, a background FOR them? Because I quite like the idea of the latter.

I mean, find a Na'vi in the background who you might be, make a background for them if you like, or just post the picture.

I've never paid much attention to the guys in the background, even though they as a whole are quite important to the story. Do we look for those who physically resemble us? I haven't seen any Asian-looking Na'vi, although I haven't searched that thoroughly.

*g* Okay, I'll bite, then. Background for non-character Na'vi.

Tanari is a mix of practical and romantic - no flowers for her necklace, but pink straps on her loincloth. Old enough to run with the hunters, young enough to go running to Graceaugustine when she comes back. Old and young enough to feel caught and confused, for all she can go still, silent, keeping her secrets close like a pool of water.

Tanari ran on the day that the Skypeople killed Sylwanin, Renilor and O'taw. She didn't scream, just grabbed her younger sister Tirri'Ong, and ran. She doesn't like to remember that, but she wakes up to nightmares where she's too slow, where Tiri'Ong falls to the floor. She wakes up to nightmares where she ran too fast, or ran too slow, or didn't run at all.

She pushes herself, ever since that. The Na'vi are no stranger to death, but she wants to live. Wants to never fail like that again. She's first to volunteer on a hunt, first to grab her spear and her bow. She's the first to follow Tsu'Tey up the vines, before Kim'at and Jhakesully. Second to get her ikran, but she doesn't mind that. She's the first to do her Dreamhunt, which makes up for it. She's not the first to run when Eytukan, but she's prompt to follow his orders. She takes two steps back, turns, and runs.

(she has to find her little sister)

She's the first to find Tsu'Tey broken on the forest floor, and it's like she's back in the school, blood and shock and death of someone she loves and respects and they were going to grow old together and she was going to follow him, like Sylwanin.

This time, Tanari doesn't run.

(....sorry length. But, am writing, and it's an interesting character-building writing exercise <.< )

Me and my female.

We bid farewell our sister, which recently died and she is with Eywa now. We all said farewell to her with due reverence. She had a beautiful funeral...

They don't have to look like you, just as you'd like to look as a Na'vi - mine has a resemblance but a few differences as well

I also think it's interesting if people have see n these before in the background, consciously or not.

Liking the ones so far
Susano'o - which shot are they from? I haven't noticed them before.

This. Was. AWESOME. I think you just wrote a mini-fanfic, Ash. :-p Tanari feels almost as real as Jake or Neytiri, the way you've written her. I like how you worked in the various appearances she makes throughout the movie. You have a good eye.

Although, I don't know if the color pink has the same feminine, romantic connotations for the Na'vi as it does for us. ;-) In fact, it probably doesn't. But, details.

How do you make up after you've done the unforgivable? Jake and Neytiri have a conversation in the wake of Hometree's destruction, during their first real moment alone following his return as Toruk Makto.

The Last Train Home
Fourteen years after the war, a lone spaceship appears in the sky. The former members of the Avatar program watch its approach – expecting the worst, fearing for their adopted home. Then the ship lands. And suddenly, nothing makes sense anymore.

Five seconds too late
This is a different kind of Jake/Neytiri romance, the story that would've unfolded had she been delayed for just five seconds while trying to reach him following the fight with Quaritch.

Heee, I totally did write a ficlet - I may clean it up and lengthen it and actually turn into a proper one. And yay! I'm glad she felt fleshed out and real, I'm very fond of the girl

Yeeeeah, on the pink, I wasn't sure. Pretty sure we only see the females wearing pink coloured things, but I'll have to go back and check. But I wanted to write down everything I had in my head before going out, and didn't have time to double-check.

If it had the same cultural connotations, that would be a huge coincidence. Especially because the Na'vi don't blush pink the way some humans do, which is where I think the association probably came from.

But still, ficlet was win.

This would be me.

Tsawke: A proficient hunter who grew up alongside Tsu'tey and remained his firm friend. She became exceptional at riding and hunting with her Pa'li, developing a strong bond with her mount. From then on she goes on daily hunts alongside Tsu'tey and other expert Pa'li riders for food and hide for the Omaticaya clan and protects the borders of their territory.
