Default [deleted scenes] Norm was a JERK!

Norm, and his fans, should be happy so much of him was left on the cutting room floor, because most of the deleted scenes of him make him out to be such a jerk. He acts so annoyingly juvenile, he really becomes a dislikeable character, and not somebody I would look to for help, let alone cheer for.
Also, the (correctly) deleted scene where Quarritch grabs Selfridge by the throat shows a man rather unhinged, and not someone who I would trust, or follow into a battle.

...wait, what? Which scenes? I loved his deleted scenes, I thought they gave him depth of character. I loved his rant at/about Jake, because it made him so very HUMAN. To get to Pandora, he's had to work hard for YEARS...but then he calms down and accepts it. But without that anger to start with, you don't get the generosity it'd take to put that aside and become friends with Jake. Not to mention, Norm was mature enough to actually SAY what his problem was, not just be passive-aggressive. And his interactions with Trudy, I loved. I thought they were a lovely mix of delight and still being able to do his work. I'm really not sure where you are getting 'JERK' from...?

Jealousy. It's a human trait.

I didn't have any problem with Norm. As Ashen Key said, Norm was a lot more developed as a character, and that was a good thing, especially when it gives so much more to his participation in the battle at the end, because even though he resented Jake getting the chance he did, he ends up being able to meet the Na'vi anyway

I agree with the replies, I liked Norm's deleted scenes. I think they really added to his character and I didn't see him as a jerk at all. Jealous sure, but I'm sure he thought he'd have to take Jake under his wing, and then all of a sudden the tables are turned and all he gets to do is babysit the link while everyone else has all the fun.

The Quaritch scene with Selfridge I thought just really showed how ruthless and cold Quaritch is. I didn't think he would be a bad leader or he'd gone crazy (crazier than usual anyway), I just think it showed he didn't really care and no matter what, he would've gone through with his plans to destroy the Na'vi. As far as anyone following him into battle... I don't think seeing that would've changed their mind, plus they're soliders and even if they don't agree with the orders, they pretty much do as told.

Norm wasn't a jerk. He acts a little ironical with Jake, maybe 'cause of the fact he uses to be around smart guys and not marines. Norm gets a very close atitude to Grace during the film, while he sees how Jake evolves in his actions.

I could have done without the "going to the mountains' scene with Norm, but the rest were okay. The scene with Quaritch and Selfridge was cool, but tells us more about Selfridge than Quaritch. Quaritch was clearly a maniac even without that scene and definitely not fit to command. Selfridge OTOH we see has realized that things have gotten out of hand and makes a (feeble) attempt to stop it.

One thing I found strange about his deleted scenes was that once they got to the link shack (that I am constantly forgetting the Site # number of..) and he was told he'd have to watch Jake's link he actually said Jake was on an "interspecies booty call" - weren't they supposed to be unsuspecting of Jake and Neytiri's relationship (especially at that stage in the film). Or did he just luck out in saying that..

Luck, I guess, although I suppose Jake was probably certainly talking about Neytiri (and there was Jake's joking line about having a date with her on the morning after first reaching hometree).

I think Norm didn't realize the truth behind his words when he said it.
