Default Finally got my mom to watch Avatar! Well...

When I first saw Avatar, it took only a few minutes before I knew I loved this film. I saw it three times within five days. It quickly became my third favorite film.
Now, my mom knows how I feel about it. Still, she had no particular desire to see it.
With the family getting together for Easter, I had the opportunity to play it for her. Despite being over a year after coming out on dvd.
So, I start the film, and about FIVE minutes into it, she has to go do the dishes.
!!
So I pause the film, and say loudly about how she would be missing the introduction to the main characters. So she comes back and starts watching again.
While she does watch the film I can see she doesn't really get into it.
About two-thirds through it, she gets a phone call that she takes, so I have to pause the film again (!), this time for about fifteen minutes.
After the call, I show the rest of the film, and she hope for a glowing review. Remember, I loved this film.
And her response: complete ambivalence.

She tells me, she would rather watch STAR TREK.
Are we related?
Way to cut me down there mom.

My mum didn't get into it much either, nor did one of my sisters. However, my other sister loves the film and so does my dad. He told me recently he'd watched it about 25 times!

My mum and dad loved it. Saw it at the cinema in 3D. I saw it with my sister as well. The only odd one out is my uncaring, insensitive brother.

*tilts head* What's wrong with her having a differing opinion? I mean, I know it's not one that you wanted, and it's sad that you can't share this one movie with her, but I'm not sure I see the problem in differing opinions?

(Also, the new Star Trek is wonderful )

@EywaBlessMe DUUUUUUDE! What are first and second favorite films? Personally, I feel 'Avatar' is the best movie ever, so I'm REALLY wondering what films you feel are better.

it's more the soul link than the blood link that works here, on feeling something special about Avatar - or anything. None of my family got excited over it so I am not wasting my time on convincing anybody (altho we can talk just fine about many other things )
But hey, I've got the whole ToS of brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles, aunties - and we don't have to convince each other about Avatar being a part of our life - or even not just a part, but life itself in some cases!

Well to be honest, I am not sure my folks have seen it yet. I have been telling them and telling them to watch it and they always have the excuse of no time. If I lived closer to them I would have made them plant their butts on the sofa and watch it with me a long time ago.

They have no idea what kind of masterpiece they are missing. I guess I will have to make a special trip one weekend up to Utah this summer just so they will finally watch it.

I'm not too surprised.

I've asked around, and there are a lot of people who really didn't like it who were a few generations older than me/us.

My parents watched it. Neither are big fans of 3D, yet for whatever reason they decided to see it in 3D anyway. All they could talk about afterwards was how their eyes hurt!

It took a very long time (nearly one year), before I could convinced my mum to watch Avatar. She bristled herself always and had the excuse of no time and no desire, perennially.
But someday, I accomblished it and she watched the movie with me. The result was, that my mum asked, why I convinced her only now She was really fascinated.

Certainly, she doesn't loves Avatar how I love it. For her, it's such a movie, but that's okay. I'm happy, when she likes the movie.

In my familiy and circle of friends no one is so "crazy" and Avatar-enthusiastic like me. Also, I think this would be very difficult For me, it's okay

Don't feel bad man, my mom is like that too. My dad and I isolate ourselves from the world when e watch movies, but my mom never does. That or she falls asleep during the film, so I just gave up trying to get her to watch movies.
