Default Vanitas Vanitatum Omnia Vanitas

Latin - "Vanitas vanitatum, omnia vanitas!" - "Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity!"

We live in a material world. A world were money is the main pillar of everything that walks, breathes and exists on the Earth's surface (and, as pictured by Avatar, maybe beyond). A world dominated by property (an abstract concept, I must say), even in the most unimaginable things -as in the case of the Polynesian man who sold his DNA to a private corporation. A world where is you're not pretty you're a fat pig, a freak. A world where if you don't fit the standards of intelligence, strength, economical level, ideology,... you're automatically rejected in some or most of the places. A world where you have to adapt yourself to the requirements of an demanding society. A world where words are meaningless, where everybody talks about freedom, peace, love; and nobody does any of them. A world of sh*t. A world of progress.

For the sake of what, I say?

I study in a posh college, where "la crème de la crème" from the highest societal strata go to study (even the son of an ex-president went here); and I went to their homes, saw their iPhones and admired their clothing. And the poshest talk like "Man this is outrageous, where did you buy it?": They never had lack of money in their whole life. Their parents live like kings. Some have garages big enough to home two whole families; instead, they've got cars they don't even use.

And for what after all?

They'll grow stain on their surface. They'll break out. Your home will be demolished. Your clothing will be eaten by moths. Your bottox-and-silicone body will be food for the worms.

All is vanity. A brief "I am the king of the world" shout until somebody as arrogant as you throws you out of the top of the hill and you're nothing but dust.

And everything you own will die with you.

Again, the point of this materialistic world is what?

PS: The answer doesn't relay in the individual "I work just for myself". It's in the "I work for the rest", in the love for the others, in the rest. The only way to live forever is throughout the hearts of the people.

Zenit, you gave the answer in your last sentence. This is so true. Every material thing that we have on this earth will fall apart one day. When we die, we can't take any of this with us. NONE of it. So, what is important in life? The most important is love and giving ourselves to others. Helping and loving others. That is the most important. Material possessions are not important. One's economic status and intelligence level: not important. Honesty, truth, love, loyalty, faith.....these are the most important. The connections that we make on this earth and our actions towards helping and loving one another will carry with us. Nothing else will.

There isn't a point.
So many people try to fill their lives... They're the ones with the real emptiness, which they can never do anything about.

I feel the emptiness too, but I have everyone here, who are like a family to me, and that's what matters. You're what make it worth it for me.

These quotes relate to what I have to say about this thread and to you guys, my friends, even though I'm not religious.

~~~~~~~~~~~
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails....And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love... ~ 1 Corinthians 13:1-8a and 13
~~~~~~~~~~~

"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" ~ Mark 8:35-36

~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope this helps.
I don't want to sound spiteful or anything like that but I can't wait for the realization to hit them: that these people have been living and feeding a lie and underneath it all..
They're the same as everybody else: we're all food for the worms..they don't discriminate.
Yeah I understand Pa'li Makto... I've been feeling like that for years! Lol
I'm glad this movie came out, and I see good things with this movie.
Hmmm but good for whom I wonder..
The movie has both awakened us to what is good and bad in our lives and society.
On the other hand, it has created a void (PAD) if you will, that people are now struggling to fill..
They want their Pandora..but can't have it.
Not to end things on a bad note but isn't wanting Pandora to exist and to live there a form of greed that we have now been conditioned to seek out and destroy?
True words Zenit. Far too often, far too many people are simply concerned with taking. Concerned over possessions, status; all trifles. Take, take, take, take, take, and never giving back. Show people there is another way. You can't convince them by wagging your finger. People will see how much more vibrant your lifeway is, and they'll make the decision for themselves.
