This is largely a joke at this point in time, but for the sake of discussion I will press on. In approximately 10 years, although it will probably have to be longer, myself and a collection of friends plan to purchase a suitable ship to go from the mouth of the Amazon and motor right up into Peru. The ship will probably be in the range of around 500-800 tons. It would also be good to time it for February-March so we can encounter the Pororoca. It's a big tidal wave 4m high that goes 13km up the Amazon.
I am not sure though whether this is even possible. It's unlikely to happen anyway but is there anything stopping us? Being an aspiring ecologist I might buy some filming equipment and document parts of the trip too. I just thought it would be one of those once in a lifetime things. Throw orthodox out the window and just make life exciting. I'll try and make it happen sometime in my life, sure would be fun. I won't end up like Sir Peter Blake either. Bigger boat = angry Indians can't climb on board. Also, the more people the better. Wives and girlfriends are quite welcome too. Although It is bad luck to have females on ships. What do you think?

sounds awesome, i would love to go to the amazon one day, but the brazilian government is going to go ahead with the Belo Monte dam project. I'm not sure if where you're travelling is going to be blocked off by the dam but yeah

Edit: Ha! It's not blocking my path, it is damming the Xingu tributary which is not the main river. ![]()
