Default Does Google Censor Anti-Us Material?

I think it does.

Recently I was making a point to someone, over the Ground Zero Mosque "debate". They spoke very highly of the US, and not to rain on their parade, but I wanted to point out that the US is not the candyland that it's made out to be. So I looked up for some specifics on things that the US has done. Really bad things, like killing thousands of Native Americans, slavery etc.

I thought there would be many articles on "the top ten worst things America has ever done" etc. Nope. Well, it was hard finding any. Check for yourself. Just type in any Anti-US question. Share your results here.

BTW, sorry if this was already discussed/a well-known fact. I checked Wikipdia for criticism, and didn't see anything under "Anti-US" or the like.

That's rather for the people's fault, and not Google's, you see. In these hard days where you can find feared enemies under the rocks, being critic over America means "being on the other side" and it happens to be an offense to what it represents.

And people don't think nice of you exactly.

Sadly it's true what you guys are saying. The US has had far from a perfect history. Like those that you mentioned Caveman and many more. We have dealt many misgivings to lesser people. Just because we can. I don't like the choices my country made in the past but every country has had its problems at one time or another. I'm not trying to say that the US is above them, were not. We have done many bad things in the 400 years of being around.

But as far as Google censoring Anti-US material. I think its just the content on the web. The highest percentage of internet goers are probably Americans. Most don't talk bad about there home. Thus leading to lack of Anti-US material.

Post-Script: Zenit, your new sign is absolutely awesome. I love that movie and many of what the settlers were facing at the hands of the British is what many are still facing today.

Pagerank is a huge mystery, but I doubt it's actively censored like that... After all, google relatively recently finally stopped censoring their results in china, which was originally done at the 'government' there's request.

I agree. I'm not trying to bash the U.S just out of boredom. Really, I just find it interesting how little content I can find. I mean, there are a lot of critical thinkers and writers who might post something - like us, on a forum. But nothing really comes up. No blogs or anything. Well, a little, but I expect more.

I wouldn't think it's censored either. Perhaps its not a matter or there being less articles, but those articles not being clicked on as much. Maybe what I'm looking for isn't censored it's just not ranked highly.

Well, thanks for the responses. Unfortunately, caveman is back to the grind as we call it.

I'm thinking its more of "its not out there" than censorship. People don't like discussing negative parts of our past.

Check wikipedia, they usually have an article on just about anything, and its usually not too biased...

Don't talk to me about google right now. Pagerank has a personal grudge against me. Seriously, anyone who would endeavor to write the whole truth of the US on the internet... could you imagine what would would happen to them? I'm writing this right now from behind several million dollars worth of traffic analysis equipment. Wikipedia is actually relatively good, certainly compared to any 'news' site anyway

Our schools teach the opposite Never use Wikipedia on research papers! And its interesting how most people here don't like the news, especially CNN, all the while I find myself wanting more and more to be Anderson Cooper. It's my dream job, and its just kinda funny how people hate CNN (although with understandable reasons).

I meant in terms of neutrality, rather than sources. Look at ANY (major) newspaper/site and try to tell me they don't have an agenda... BBC, CNN, Faux News, whatever - they all do. Ironically, the site I actually trust most is The Register, who aim to be less serious - maybe that's a good thing
Anyway, if you ARE going to use wikipedia for work, just use their references list as well
