Default The Ubuntu Thread

.
.

Since there is such thread yet, I thought I should make one.

If you have any problems with Ubuntu, want to talk about Ubuntu, or want to talk badly of Windows, this is the thread!

Hehe, I don't use it, but I don't like Windows!

When I have to use the family computer (Only have to when my parents need computer help), I dread it because I really dislike the experience of using Windows.

Awesome thread Eltu! I was going to make one when Maverick was released but this is good.

I recently added the Terminal Applet to AWN, and I'm loving it:

I have used (K)Ubuntu for years. It's the standard operating system for me. I know how to make it work like I want it to.

I've never got a BSOD that wasn't for a good reason, like Windows telling me repeatedly that 4GHz simply ain't gonna work , or that some internal cable came loose, and the same goes for kernel oops.

That said, I sincerely despise Windows, and I despise Gentoo. They're the two extremes, and Ubuntu and Debian are just right. I've learned enough about Linux to know it has more potential than Windows ever did, so I've stuck with Linux for the long haul. Linux is great, it just needs some spit-and-polish here and there. I do, however, have Windows 7 installed, but it is used exclusively to play games.

I'm pretty much a confirmed windows hater. I came to this in the natural way of hating DOS. I have been a Unix guy ever since I first experienced it in about 1980. These days I mostly use the recompiled RedHat CentOS stuff, but this is for work. I deal with about 50 of those systems.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with Windows due to several reasons. I have a couple of Linux systems at home but they too are more server like than desktop like. I do have to say that for a desktop they have a good setup going.

Just for a point of reference.

Ubuntu and linux in general is not just for the younger crowd. I just got done loading Ubuntu on my fathers new computer. He picked up on of those newer Intel dual core Atom processor motherboards. It's plenty fast for non gaming and non video editing use. His computer room gets the afternoon sun and he wanted something that heated the room less than his older AMD box.

He mostly uses Fedora and I convinced him to load Ubuntu instead for the ease of getting things like inkjet printers working. It's running everything just fine now. Anyhow he is 80 and I don't think that there is a Window system in this house other than this laptop which I got from my work.
