Default Volunteering Across the World

Last week in another thread caveman posted a link to outsideonline.com - specifically this link, which lists 51 different "dream trips, daring quests, essential skills, and exalted states of body and mind." I read through the whole list, and now it's gotten me thinking about things to do in my life. There's a few items that mention traveling the world in general and at least one that mentions volunteering. Well, the past few days my mind has been utterly seized by the prospect of spending a long enough time in another country to do some serious volunteer work. I don't know whether it would be environmental, humanitarian, or whatnot, but I can't stop thinking about doing this after I graduate from college next Spring. I love to travel, and if I can accomplish something worthwhile while I'm at it then great.

So, has anyone here ever done something like this, or known someone else who has? Any tips on how to go about doing this? I've only just begun to research programs and organizations. (There's a few relevant links found within the one posted above, and I'm also looking into this group, which has an office at my school.) Frankly my head is hurting a little bit from thinking about all this, so sorry if I sound scatterbrained at all! I just wanted to take this off my mind and read any advice that any of you may have.

You either need a lot of money or get a job which will sponsor you. A good example is Matt Harding. A gum company paid him to travel around the world to dance in MANY MANY different countries. Lucky guy. The video is called "Where the hell is Matt?". Good song too.
Personally, I'd just love to travel to a few places.

I'm about to go to the Borneo rainforest for 10 weeks toward the end of January.

I'm going with Raleigh International, A well-established charity volunteering group who run expeditions to Borneo, Costa Rica & Nicaragua and India.
