Default Riding the Beast

In Avatar riding the Ikrans and Toruks is an essential part of the concept. It illustrates an old dream, to be able to fly in a natural way, either by yourself or by riding a strong beast of the air. We have dreamed about this for ages and recreated it in myths, legends and fairy tales. Also riding the beast is a beloved motif in art. So I thought we could perhaps find some good examples of this theme in artistic or literary expressions.

Also this old dream of flying cuts across all cultures. Here is an example from Hindu mythology with the god Vishnu riding Garuda, king of the birds:
