Default The most plausible explanation for Christ I have ever seen.

Jesus Christ - Darthipedia - the Star Wars Humor Wiki

Note: Obviously intended as a joke in all forms and contexts. Do not interpret as anything more than such.

Well I certainly wouldn't feel very welcome here If I were religious. I'm not...but dang, I'm sure someone is.

Yes, because Tree-of-Souls is such a welcoming place to all sorts of people who love Avatar... What a wonderful way to show it, no less embraced by the moderating team as well...

Um *raises hand* There is also evidence that suggests that he was entirely mythological in origin, and sound theories as to why this might be the case. I'm not sure where I fall on the issue, but it's not exactly the case as you are presenting it.

He might not have gone by "Jesus" as it is in the bible. But there was a guy, who said "Hey, this is how it should be" (may or may not have claimed to be the son of god) A very smart guy I should say, who was crucified by the Roman Empire. And Christianity started rolling from there.

This topic is getting heated, and not in a good way, apart from an intended joke (which doesn't sit too well at all with Christians, here). I have a discerning crystal ball, and I foresee sparks flying in this thread.

Maybe! And maybe not. I've seen theories go both ways.

Re: reality of Jesus. Is it really so improbable that there was wandering messianic figure named Yeshua (or something very similar) in 1st century Judea?

I do not see the need to question the existence of Jesus. Mohammad was certainly real- but that's no reason to become a Muslim. Non-muslim historians just accept there is a difference between the accounts of his life given in the Qur'an and the Hadith and what actually occurred.

On the subject of sci-fi examinations of the life of Jesus, I highly recommend the short novel 'Behold the Man'

Academics question everything. It's what makes it fun.

As far as I am aware, the majority of serious academics (even atheists and agnostics) investigating the historicity of biblical events regard the 'Jesus never existed' hypothesis as pop-history tripe on a par with things like Gavin Menzies' 1421.
