Default Could somebody explain this?

A couple of weeks ago, I pasted a message on some page, and on a later day, I went back to check for replies. I was surprised not by the replies, but by this message on the page.
Let's see now...
My IP is 99.etc; if you say so.
My ISP is SBC; sounds about right.
I was running a Mac; absolutely.
I was using safari; got me.
Refrigerator;....come again?
How do I respond? Microwave oven?
What does that even mean?
HELP IS REQUESTED!!

It's an image that gets the data from your browser's request to load it - nobody else can see it as it shows their info for them. You just made it public by posting the screenshot. "Refrigerator" is just a random piece of text - the person who creates the sig can put in several and one is chosen at random to appear each time it is loaded.

All of the data (OS, browser, etc.) is is your browser's user agent string, and your ISP can be determined from the IP address. You can see your user agent with an explanation at http://www.useragentstring.com/

PS. posting your IP publicly is a bad idea, so I hid the last part for you.

It could be a virus. Do you have a scanner that comes with your anti virus software?

Anybody that could do anything malicious with an IP could get it. >_>

The thing that shows what browser/IP you have has been around for a while because I remember seeing something like it on another forum a few years back.

Nah it's not a virus or malicious in any way.

no, it's not malicious. It's a little script from danasoft thats designed specifically to elicit this reaction.
No, it is not a virus. No, it does not have access to any specific info.

And HNM, if someone really wanted his IP address, they'd get it. And showing your IP isn't dangerous, if you have proper protection the only thing that could happen is DDoS, and anyone that is capable of such an attack probably isn't paying much attention to him. Judging by the fact it's a 99. Address and its called "sbc internet services", not "att speedstream connect" or "SBC commercial" , he's using a 2Wire 3800 hgv-b modem/router combo (on u-verse) that has unpatched problems in its NAT tables. So yes, hide that, it's probably for the best.

Heh, it's true that there are a lot of ways to get an IP address, but it's just a nice thing to do, not to reveal IP addresses publicly.

As for the image itself, it isn't malware of any kind - it's a sig that uses the info from the image request. You can get your own here: Privacy Hacker Blog Widget Tricks Your Friends w/ Privacy & Security Paranoia - Danasoft
Not amazingly difficult to code, there are a few people here including me who could probably put something together that did a similar thing in a day or so. It's harmless, it's just displaying the data your browser sends every time you load a page.
