Default Sustainatopia 2012 - Includes Avatar Events!!!

Kaltxi ma eylan,

I have been contacted by the organiser of the Sustainatopia conference and exhibition, which is being held in Miami from 19th - 25th April 2012. There is something that will very much be of interest to us Avatar Fans:

There are two events happening over that weekend for Avatar!!

The first one is Avatar - The Summit:
"Spend an afternoon exploring the profound connections between the world’s most popular movie and the creation of a more sustainable planet. Meet friends from around the world who share your sensibility and passion for James Cameron’s masterpiece. Create a new network and friendships for a lifetime. Expect many surprises and even a celebrity or two!"

The second event is a public screening of Avatar!!:
"Enjoy the world’s most popular movie and sustainability epic…… while relaxing in an open air setting on the front lawn of the magnificant, Frank Gehry-designed Soundscape Park. Over 1,000 are expected to attend and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience."

The orgainser also said that there will be a "huge parade for Avatar enthusiasts and all those who love sustainability- doing right by the world, people and animals. ... The event CARNIVALIA is going to have a recyclable dragon, oil slick and be combined with AVATAR themes."

For more information you can visit the Sustainatopia website : Sustainatopia

There is also a video from the previous event:

I'm sure it will be of interest...

Alan

WoW .. just WoW the whole conference, sounds amazing. Makes note to self, to consider for next year (and hopes that Avatar will be a part of it again)!

Big Thx for sharing Alan!

For example, there is an actual star pattern that is traced in the shape of a Willow Tree, across the breadth of the Milky Way! No worries. It's really the founder, John Rosser, we have to thank for organising this and bringing the issues up the agenda. I'm sure, if any of the previous events are anything to go by, this one will be a huge success.

Kind of silly to have it in Florida.

That place has so many ecological problems, it isn't even funny.

Good point.

Interesting, it's good to see something like this a few years on.

And an evil Governor don't forget that!

While we do have lots of problems, I would think something like this shows that at least some Floridians don't have their heads wedged firmly in their asses.

Cant they make anything like that in Europe? It would be kind of silly to fly by jet to a sustainability conference half across the globe...

Indeed... plus, it's a bit far to get there by means of barefoot hitchhiking - and that Ocean is in the way, too...
All kidding aside, the best for such an event would be to be organized in small chapters, without wasting too many resources at the sites it's taking place and inviting people to use the least polluting way of transportation...

I'd like that.

The original event is a great idea, of course... but that can be developed into something bigger.

Good points auroraglacialis and txim_awsal. But hey, at least they are making an effort to recognise the need for us to all live more sustainably and trying to spread that word to a world population.

You never know, maybe if it is a success the organisers might decide to set up satalite events around the world for people to attend.

The US might not be renowned for it's public transport compared to Europe, but the original 'car culture'. However, it does have some shining examples like Seattle where there are trains, trams, monorail, buses and trolley buses! I'm sure it is not like that everywhere, though.

I kinda does sadden me a bit to think that young people are 'expected' to drive and they have no choice but to pollute the environment and world that they are inheriting from the previous generation - just to be 'normal'. How sad is that? I long for the day when the majority of people have the choice not to drive and still get on in life with 'sustainable private transport' being available. Yeah, riiight...not in my lifetime I guess...

Having said all that, the event in Miami is not only close to the beach area, it is also close to the airport and on a bus route. Also all the hotels are within (bare foot) walking distance, so at least that is something. People will have choice to use puplic transport to get there if they wish. Although it would be interesting to see how many do...

Please make sure to leave some bare footprints there in our name, then.

I wish I could, but being in the UK I can't make it. I did look up the airfare and it was like £600!!! Plus the fact I'm saving up for the Avatar Fan meet up in Seattle in July (www.avatarmeet.com), which is costing me a tidy penny or two...

Hopefully there will be info posted on the website during the event to keep folks up to date.

I'm sure there will be some local Avatar Fans going. I did send a link of the Avatar Fan film (Our Only Home) to the organiser who asked for a copy to incorporate into the event. So hopefully it will get shown and illustrate how us fans have taken Avatar's message on board. So in a way we will have a presence there.

Alan
