Default 800000 protest in Paris - against gay marriage :(

French protest at Eiffel Tower against plan to legalise gay marriage and adoption | FaithWorld

I just wish, that they would protest against something meaningful - for Nature, for social equality, for the environment, for the oceans, the forests, the climate, against war or anything else that is really killing humans and nonhumans and makes their life miserable. Instead they go out in the middle of the winter to protest against people of a certain sexual orientation haveing children. Sigh - the priorities of people are just completely upside down, IMO. What do they want next? Forget about oil slicks and deforestation, but rather make a law that forces women with children to remarry if they are divorced because as these protesters say "a man and a women and kids - thats a family" - and all other situations are not good for the child....???

France is a Catholic country, so really it's no surprise.

I guess it's too bad for gay people, but really, it's only a matter of time until the rest of the world accepts gay marriage.

I don't have to accept anything that I don't like and I don't like when phenomena like this are more discussed than other essential problems of our times like how to save ourselves from self-destruction.

Wow, that's messed up. First good thing their new president does, and people protest against it.

Sadly, often there's just no pleasing people.

I think the pro-gay marriage count in the public dropped by 10% or so due to the campaigning of these people. Much of it is motivated as a bomb against Hollande as a "socialist" and is comeing from the right wing, but that whole argument about children not be able to grow up properly if they do not have their biological mother and father around is so messed up. It so promotes that stupid nuclear family idea and if thought to the end is so harmful to a society. I mean, they are worrying about OTHER peoples children there obviously. And if they do that, why not worry about the many many more children in the world who suffer from environmental crisis, hunger and sexual abuse. That is crazy! Just because some hundred white french kids will not have a mixed couple as parents makes them go on the street, but the millions of kids that die because of France importing food for their livestock and ethanol for the gasoline from poor countries are ignored? I am not a vegetarian, but in that case, I would even pull out that old argument that if these 800000 people would not eat meat for a year, they would probably save many many more children from dying than they would now save them from some imagined predicament. The focus is to off, people are so insane, they are out of touch with reality. Its like caring more about some movie stars divorcing each other than about the global ecological crisis. Its like pressing the hands over the ears really hard and only listen to what comes through the ipod earphones because the outside is too horrible to look at...

If that thinking is correct, than it would be Impossible for a straight couple to have a gay child.

That is really surprising. In fact, I think I'd be at least a little surprised if such a thing happened in most developed countries (excluding America of course).

Because America is incredibly homophobic in comparison.

Not ALL of America is that way, and a FEW of the "live and let live" areas are NOT what you would expext them to be. For example, Everyone in this Conservative, Church going, Cattle Ranching area of far west Texas, KNOWS that I am a post operative, Transsexual Lesbian, that has been in a momogamous relationship with Ateyo for Twenty years, and that due to a loophole in Texas DOMA law, the two of us were LEGALLY MARRIED in San Antonio three years ago.
Two days after it happened, in addition to special news reports being done on our Marriage on four different T.V. Stations, three in ElPaso, and one in San Antonio, we had a two column story written on us on the Front Page of The ElPaso Times.
There is NO ONE within two hundred miles of our place, that does not know who we are, and what our situation is, yet All we have received from anyone was congratulations, or statements like "It was about time".
TRUE this country is not quite as advanced as most on this issue, but Thanks in part to President Obama's leadership where it comes to the treatment of GLBT'S, this Country is
"growing up" FAST.

That sounds great, Niri Te, but honestly - the fact that this happened (the media coverage and everyone knowing) sort of speaks to at least the difference from Europe. I mean here politicians admit they are gay and are not even getting much media coverage except for some comedians and the yearly protest for gay rights is more like a gay party, some straight people even adopt stuff from homosexuals because they are stylish and the part of the city that is known for its gay bars is ranking very high on the price for rented flats because people want to be there - I think that still is a difference though saying that the US is "extremely homophobe" is maybe overstating it a bit. Try Iran or Saudi Arabia, that will give you the chills....
Anyways that protest in the OP was not really about "hating homos" or something like that - at least not openly, but about gay marriage and children, but I think that was really just an excuse. In fact I think that in many "civilized" countries the veil of acting tolerant and social is rather thin - it is a taboo now to be homophobe, racist or misogynist openly, but that does not mean people are not still homphobes, racists or misogynists - just that they are not allowed to act openly on it which means they either refrain from acting on it at all or they do it in secret.
Like when they prohibited the use of a swastika and the Hitler-greeting-gesture in Germany. Almost immediately other symbols were used by those who still are NAZIs. And then these get prohibited and so it goes and nowadays you are already suspicious if you have a triskele (a celtic symbol among others that was not really that related to the NAZIs) anywhere and the numbers 18 or 88 are code numbers because they represent the numbers of the letters for "Adolf Hitler"=A.H. = 1.8. and "Heil Hitler" = "H.H."=1.8.. Then groups call themselves "Club 18" or something and now tell me that anyone from anywhere could have the slightest chance without prior knowledge to know that this is a typical name for a NAZI group going out and beating up immigrants. And the next step then is that people who happen to think that this would be a cool name for their club of people who just turned 18 are getting under suspicion of being nationalists in secrecy. Its all madness if people are denied to openly express their opinion even if that opinion is bad, so in a way those protests are positive in that at least now we know what the opinion in the public of France is and that obviously there is some work to be done.
Though as I said, what I find most sad about this is that not even half that number of people would show up in any protests against something really harmful (in terms of people actually dying or getting physically sick from it)...

That was a good post, ma oeya tamuke. The biggest reason that Ateyo and I got the media coverage that we did, is because we tried to get our Marriage License first in religious conservative, 80 percent Hispanic Catholic ElPaso. When they tried to even slow us down a bit, I went straight to the media, even giving them each pre -printed copies of the Federal Court Judges ruling. From there it went viral, I have had people from England, Holland, ans Austrailia congratulate us for sticking to our guns, and forcing the State of Texas to Marry us.
I agree that forging people to not speak their minds is wrong, here in the States, we take our right to free speach, as seriously as our right to own a gun. The KKK are allowed to have their occaisio al marches wearing their Klan uniforms, as long as they follow the rules, and pull a permit for the march. The only people that come out, are thkse that laugh and jeer at them.
One thing that I am thankful for, is when Obama, by Presidential Proclamation, extended the "Hate Crimes Bill" to cover GLBT'S.

I'd really not have expected anyone to get Texas of all places to do it (except maybe Alabama as worse ). Certainly must have taken some dedication.
