Vibram FiveFingers - KSO Men’s Minimalist Shoes for Running, Water Sports & More | Vibram FiveFingers

My gf's sis gets 50% off at the mall so I asked her to get me a pair of those Vibram fivefingers. I cannot wait!

What makes them "minimalist"?

There's a minimal amount of shoe, which should be obvious, so maybe I am misunderstanding your question.

In the case of KSOs, they are ~4mm thick, but the other point is that they don't have a raised heel like other shoes, so you use your feet completely differently, and there's the toe separation, of course, certainly the most visible thing .

VFFs FTW, I always wear mine

How long have you had yours? Are they durable or showing any signs of wear?

I've worn out 2 pairs in about 2 years, although they are still wearable albeit with holes in them , and am on my 3rd which I wear most of the time, occasionally the better condition of the older pairs.

As they're thin, they don't last as long as normal shoes for the same usage, sadly, but like any, it all depends on how much you walk/run.

awesome to see another five finger person here, if you wear them daily, i recommend washing them weekly, otherwise they can get pretty smelly.

i would also recommend not doing anything but walking int hem for some time, your feet *will* hurt, your calves *will* ache, but its not that bad.

if you plan on running in them, start small, and start slow, if you are a predominately a heel strike type of runner, you will have to change to running on the balls of your feet (as you should be running)

So far my feet have been fine, no aches or pains, mostly because I've been barefoot walking for a while now so my feet are used to it.

So far they ain't stinky..........yet. LOL

I own single pair of that "weird shoes", "outdoor socks" or whatever You name them. Model: KSO EVO. Yes, they are very comfortable. For me vibrams level of freedom can be compared only to "sport flip-flops" aka "running flip-flops" that are regular 3-point flip-flops plus heel strap that prevent them from slipping. I have VFF for about year now but use them rarely, mostly during weekends. I chose black color, the best chose for urban camouflage. Actually searching for blue one for cosplay but cannot find whole blue model.

Problems I found so far with these shoes:
- They are waterproof but not water resistant. You can wash them in washing machine but single step into puddle (even 5mm = 1/4inch deep) or wet grass will result wet toes, especially when wearing socks.
- For me, comfortable range of temperatures are between 4*C (40*F) and 17*C (62*F). Great for autumn and spring. Not the best choice for cold winter and hot summer.
- To thick to grab things with my toes (which I do often when I'm barefoot).
- Separate toes can easily hook around cables but I cannot feel that till I pull random cable and attached device.
- I cannot wear VFF at work or even swap them to regular shoes during work So far there are no restrictions against VFF. The reason are chemicals used at work that can affect some material from random shoes. VFF have special type of sole that may be affected too.

Edit: more than 4y necropost. On different forum I'll won "gold digger" or "golden shovel" prize
