Default Give up your life....

It's fairly unanimous that the users of this forum would give up their lives to go live on Pandora as an avatar/Na'vi.
I put to you this; would you give up your life to live as an indiginous tribesman/woman on Earth?

This is a question that has been bugging me since I saw Avatar the third time. The lives of indiginous tribes on Earth are strikingly similar to that of the Na'vi on Pandora. Most are in tune with Nature, living very simple lives hunting and gathering food, supporting their tribe while seeking little in the way of luxuries. I see it that it would hardly be different to give up my life and live as a Na'vi than it would be to give up my life and live with, say, the Native Americans. However, there is something holding me back and I cannot, for the life of me, determine what it is.
I have narrowed it down to either:

a) the fantasical nature of Pandora that wouldn't be present on Earth, the bioluminscence, the floating mountains and the incredible animals, IKRANS <3

b) the difference between humans and Na'vi, the blue-ness and tahni (biolume dots), better vision, hearing, tails, queues for tsahaylu, TSAHAYLU itself

c) the feeling of being lightyears away from all the corruption of Earth, Pandora being 4.4 lightyears away in the Alpha-Centauri system

and finally, completely Avatar specific d) the romance with Neytiri, or the hope of a Neytiri-like romance

What do you think?

The difference between living as a native American and a na'vi is that the nature on Pandora is ALIVE, at least that's my opinion about it.

(Also the previously mentioned abcd above by sacred ^)

I think it would come with it some very difficult problems. None of us in the Western World have lived off the land in a while now. Very few of us live on farms or hunt for our own food, etc. I think that if someone from the US or Europe, etc were to live like the indigenous people or even live with them it would feel like we are imposing on them. It would be strange, I guess. Hmm, what am I saying?

Basically, if a western person (mostly of the light color of skin) were to try to live with a group of indigenous people, they will probably not be accepted. It might be seen as being condescending. Many would consider the person to be naive, an idealist, or being disrespectful. Is this making sense?

What I am saying is that we could never be truly one of them. There are to many barriers. If a group of people were to try to live off the land in a small community, they would be considered hippies or worse. Many people would not understand it.

The way many Native Americans live now is not how they lived a couple of years ago. Many of them live on reservations and have adopted for the most part a similar lifestyle to most of the people in the US. There are VERY few places on earth where people still live they way they did centuries ago.

All of these...
In addition, if I was still on Earth, I would know what was there, and not only would than ruin it for me, but I know I would miss so much in terms of people, places and things, that I would never miss if I was on Pandora.
I want to be able to live in Hometree with other Na'vi, to climb the floating mountains and bond with my Ikran, I want to find my Neytiri, to experience tsahaylu, to connect to a Tree of Voices.
I want to actually be a Na'vi - I find them so much more appealing than humans now. Humanity just doesn't hold my interest in the same way.

I was born here, on Earth... not on Pandora, and even the world I live is cruel and doesn't care about anything just money, at least I can live with the price that I spend my life inside as a Na'Vi. I have something to do here, with my life and I could not give up with my mission unfinished.

I agree with you Sacred Tsahaylu... the Na'vi and Pandora seem so much more alive. Sure there are dangerous animals on Pandora, but same with here on Earth, and there's another thing that bugs me too... disease. It doesn't look like Pandora has that... the Na'vi die normal causes it looks like. And like said, the whole fact of Earth being light years away... thats something for me... its the setting. Like I want to move to someplace like Oregon or (its a huge stretch) Alaska, or at least Pismo beach a couple hours up the coastline still here in California. People ask, "why Oregon? You could find some cool places like that in California" and I reply, "Well yes you could in California, but there would be limited compared to Oregon, plus, I like being close to the ocean, but being farther up north just seems comforting to me.

And of course, the tsahaylu... something I will forever wish to have, the closest intimate connection to any living thing.

And once again of course, the Neytiri love

no. Indian cultures will be overrun eventually, and of course, Tsahaylu.

Stanly- Alaska isn't bad. I live here.

I don't think so. Thinking about it analytically (and because my PAD is almost nonexistent today :\) I'm not entirely sure that I would even give up my life to go live on Pandora as an avatar -- I'd love the connectedness and the lifestyle of the People, but I don't know if I'm qualified to fit in. I'm rather soft, having grown up in a Western culture filled with computers and electronics everywhere... (If I had the option to be born Na'vi from the start, as opposed to trying to fix my current not-up-to-par self? That's another matter. )

I don't think that giving up your life to become Na'vi is anything like giving it up to be part of an Earth tribe. The Na'vi are untouched and Pandora is theirs -- Earth tribes have to deal with the modern world, which is all around and forever intruding. More thoughts below...

What do you think?
The first two, definitely. I'm not particularly affected by whether there's a feeling of separation from Earth, but the Na'vi's superior bodies and more importantly their magical world are quite attractive. Earth has its beauties too, but the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence -- Pandora's beauties seem far more attractive. Option "d" is probably the clincher, for me -- I'd absolutely love to be Jake (although I hardly think I'm good enough for the role!), and I know I'm not alone in longing for a soulmate. My current existence is hardly worth considering...
