Default What's going on here?

I had always had the feeling that something was going wrong on Earth, but couldn't define it with certainty; however Pandora for some reason didn't seem to have that, looking a desirable place where to live instead.

I can't help asking what makes our world be in such bad shape; things aren't like that just because they are, but rather because someone or something wanted it to be that way. So, why is everything like this now, what caused it? Why do we feel so powerless when trying to change them, or don't even bother in doing so and let it stay instead?

Why can't we live better?

It's so sad isn't it?

I believe its because of the way things work (speaking from a western perspective) there is power engrained in every aspect of our lives and this ideology is taken for granted. it's our way of live and there is next to no choice in the matter.

Those who defy it are oppressed. Its a sad but true realization. There are so many people that would rather just be quiet and not be "**** disturbers" so to speak.

In a world where everyone fends for themselves, its hard to be taken seriously let alone followed.

=\ I'm sorry you think about this kind of thing too, hopefully one day there will be enough of us to be the difference we wish to see in this world.

See, the main question here is not the "what are we gonna do". It's the "when is it going to happen". I'm so tired of waiting that day to become true, expecting this to change and think the idea of a better world is not just a nice fad; that I don't know what to do.

I'll sadly will end up being a bitterface engineer in about 20 years, and will be just another number on the census instead of one who made the difference. I don't want either, but it's for what we're being educated. To work for the omnipresent Modern Society.

Then refuse to be another number! Until we figure out what will be done, there is no answer to when is it going to happen. My advice would be not to wait for it to come, BRING that day. Don't have expectations and do what you can to make YOUR world a better place and know that you're making a difference to people.

You can't change other people, but you can change yourself. I think that's where it starts, and thats when its going to happen.

It's how people can't see (or See) beyond themselves and short term gain. Everyone is taught to work work work for the rest of their lives, all feeding society at their own expense, and they don't even realise there is another way, because it's all they've ever known.
What makes it worse is that because it's all they know, it's the only thing they pass on, making it worse every generation.

There will always be people that realise this and do something different, but never enough

Zenit, I don't want to sound like a broken record (or a skipping CD for those of you who don't remember records) but it must start with one step at a time. I know that it seems hopeless because there are so many people just going with the status quo, etc. It doesn't have to be that way but so many have known no other way like HNM has said. That is what we have all been taught. Change on the sort of massive scale that you refer too CAN'T happen overnight. That would utterly destroy everything. Granted, there are some things that would be fine being destroyed but as the cliched saying goes, "don't throw the baby out with the bath water."

What ever you do, don't become bitter. If you become bitter then there isn't much you can do. There isn't much you can change. If you remain positive with a heart full of love, yes, Change can come. Not the sort of change that lends itself to snappy political slogans. That isn't the kind of change there needs to be. No, it starts ultimately with the heart.

The way you talked about that feeling of something being wrong on Earth sounds like what I felt after finishing Assassin's Creed II (I immersed myself in the story). Once I beat it, I felt like something was wrong, something I couldn't stop but knew I needed to fight. But there was nothing.

Now it's been replaced with a fear of environmental destruction, which is very real.
