Kaltxi, clanmates!

I live in Northern New Jersey, and I have to figure out a way to get to the Liberty Science Center to see the exhibit (Jersey City isn't so convenient for me to get to, but it's not overly far from where I live).

So I thought to start this thread for a possible meet-up to see the exhibit at the LSC? I was thinking the best time to go there, at least weather-wise, would be more toward the spring (end of March, or sometime in April maybe?) -- that way we could also venture outside the Center and into Liberty State Park? So, who would be up for a meet-up then? Maybe we can coordinate something?

I think that would be fun! When is the exhibit supposed to be there?

The exhibit at the LSC runs from February 16th to May 19th.

That's a good window of opportunity. Did you have a specific time in mind to get together? I'd like to see what I can work out in terms of the dates.

I must admit CyanRachel and I had been sort of tentively discussing a possible date, but with nothing cast in stone. We were wondering about 13th-14th April, the weekend after the London Mini-Meet Up.

However, with ahoragi asking if the museum could do an Avatar showing towards the end of the exhibition's run there, it might be an opportunity for us to get a bit more co-ordinated to help convince the museum to show the film again when us Avatar fans have been able to mobilise ourselves into a clan gathering.

(Oh...yep, I'm definitely thinking of coming over to see ma Avatar family again )

And no Avatar meet-up, mini or otherwise, would be complete without at least one cameraman there!

I have something coming up, but fortunately, it will be April 5th, meaning I will be able to attend on the 13th-14th.

That would be awesome if we could get this worked out.

Errrm,...well we don't have anything fixed at the moment. Ahoragi was asking if the museum could show Avatar on the last weekend of the exhibition (18th and 19th May). If they can this might be a better time for a meet up to see the exhibition off with a blast! It also gives folks a bit more time to decide to go/make arrangments to visit. So might be a good idea to hold off for the moment?

Aye, indeed. What do folks feel about the last weekend of the exhibition as a time for a mini-meet up? This would be 18th and 19th May.

I guess we would need to find somewhere for us to stay, perhaps in Jersey city which has good transport links to the museum with the Tram and also to New York, if people would like a visit there too. Also it will be a little bit more warmer too.

Any thoughts anyone?

I think that would be a pretty good time to have it. It will be warmer and it'll give us more time to work out the details and save up some money for expenses.

That time is a little more problematic for me since it is so close to my final, but I think I could still manage it. At least one of the two days, probably both.

Ahhh...yes of course. Well, it might be good to have a short break from the studying to go back refreshed with a bit of a buzz perhaps?

Is there a more preferable date for folks?

Also Ahoragi has been in touch with the museum and they might be able to put on Avatar 3D again. If we can decide on a date then we might well be able to watch Avatar altogether

At this point, I'd say we should aim for the last weekend of the exhibit (May 18th - 19th) for the reasons already mentioned.

Whilst we wait for some more info from the LSC museum regarding the showing of Avatar 3D, I have done a little bit of hotel hunting on the Jersey City side of the Hundson River. Most of them seem really expensive...even more so than on Manhattan! However, I have found one that might be ok. Check out the link below:

Room rates start at $109. It says they are a short walk to the local transits like PATH that runs between New York and New Jersey.

Looking at where is is on the map it is just over a mile from the museum, so about a 20 minute walk, or you can catch the tram and enjoy a street view of Jersey City.

Of course, providing there are enough rooms available for us. I might drop them an email...

Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts?

With apologies for the double post, I just wanted to let folks know I have got a response from the above hotel's general manager. I basically asked if they had room availability for four days some time between 10th and 20th May for between 10 and 15 people and this was their response:

"Hello, and thanks for asking. We do have rooms available and the room rate for 7 or 8 rooms will be $120.00 plus 14% tax. Please contact us via this e-mail to book."

Let's hope we get some confirmation from the museum now.
