Default Costa Rica...?

So, this is kind of wishful thinking, but I had an idea...

Costa Rica is probably the closest easily-traveled-to place with well-preserved tropical forests and an overall positive attitude towards foreigners.

It would make for an excellent AvMeet trip, because of the well-preserved forest and the opportunity to see some really cool stuff.

The problem? Costa Rica is another country.

Some of you guys have already had to deal with this because you live across the Atlantic, but the majority of us live in the US, and Costa Rica would be the first time we would have to travel to another country for a meetup. Some of you guys in the Southern states wouldn't have it quite as bad because you're closer, but for the people who live further north, the plane tickets would be pretty beefy. Even without that factor, a meetup in Costa Rica would be the most expensive to undertake.

So here's what I thought of.

What if, at some point in the relatively-near future, we planned to have a meetup in Costa Rica, and pooled money for it as a group?

Instead of each person paying for their own stuff (travel, etc.) and then splitting up the costs of any group activities, we pooled a ton of money so that the costs of each person's flight wouldn't be such a big problem?

Essentially, what I have envisioned is that everything would be taken care of for each person as far as travel, food, group activities, and lodging, and then anything extra (extra food, souvenirs, whatever) would have to be covered by the person interested.

It's kind of pie-in-the-sky, but Costa Rica would beat out Hawaii as far as forests go (don't even get me started about Hawaii's environmental issues) and we wouldn't have to deal with massive amounts of tourists during the summer. If we could do something like pooling money so that everybody could go, it would make it easier to pull off, probably.

What do you guys think? I haven't researched any of this, I literally just thought of it last night and decided to throw it on the table.

Sounds like an interesting place to visit, but seems like it'd be expensive, and having people put money up for it is going to get difficult and complicated extremely quickly with different places people are coming from, different levels people can afford to contribute, etc - even if there were enough people willing to buy others' tickets. As for either there or Hawaii, I'd suggest against doing it during the summer as not everyone (me included) can deal with heat that well, in any case.
