Doesn't your Uni have stuff you can use? Ooo a 3D camera phone! How cool is that. Look forward to seeing some steroscopic videos

There is are a couple of interesting books on Steroscopic film making, which migfh be of interest:
    3D Movie Making (ISBN 978-0-240-81137-6)
    3DTV and 3D Cinema (ISBN 978-0-240-81461-2)

Both are by Bernard Mendiburu. I've nearly finished reading the first one. Certainly gives a good overview of the thing that need to be considered!

Ooo this might be of interest too: www.filmskills.com

I'd love to do my own projects, but the problem has always been that I don't have access to proper equipment. For now, my best camera is my phone (which happens to be a 3D phone, so I'm not complaining ).

I'd love to see your work. Wow a highschool for film making! Nothing like that over here Unfortunately I got into film making after I finished school and I had already go down the engineering route.

Sorry to here you have been able to do so much at uni as highschool. Is it all theory then, rather than practical? You could just get a group of your mates together and get out there filming. If you are looking for a story film to do I have (20 minute) screen play that you are more than welcome to look at!

Well, now it's Friday have a great weekend ma tsmuke.

Yeah, I have a reel etc. Don't know if I mentioned this before, but I had two years of highschool here.
They helped me get all that kind of stuff together. Everything I've done so far at uni is maybe one percent of everything I got to do there.

No worries , ma tsmuke. That was a bit unfair people saying you don't have enough experience. Even they had to start somewhere!

Do you have a show reel at all of stuff you have done. The other thing is doing things like a cable runner or something. It is a foot in the door and then once in you start showing interest in the areas you want to work in and ask questions...see if you can have a go...and sometimes it can lead from there.

I'm sure you'll get where you want to be, just keep plugging at it.

(I know I'm doing a lot of chin wagging here. Feel free to tell me where to get off! Hehehe)

Cool logo! Over here, all I've been repeatedly told is that I don't have enough experience, so it's what I've come to expect from jobs that are actually related.
Thanks for all the advice and links

Yeah, I like computer animation stuff too. I had a play with the AvatarMeet logo that you see on the meet up promo and did a 3D stereo version (you'll need some anaglyph specs to see it) : Second Stereo edit.mp4 - YouTube

I'm sure you'll get a job when you are over. If you know what area you will be in you should be able to find where the local TV/film/animation studio is.

If computer animation interests you check out : 3D World - The Magazine for 3D Artists They have a job section which might be of interest and offers a bit of advice for trying to get into that industry: 3D World Jobs | jobs | Choose from 425 live vacancies

Anyway before all that there is a small matter of a certain Avatar Meet Up in Seattle! Looking forward to meeting up again with the clan

I really like animation and 3D, but I'll gladly do anything media related at this point. Hopefully I can get some kind of work while I'm over there, even if it isn't relevant to what I'm in school for.

Sorry to hear your course is going a little slow. You never know, this exchange might just be the ticket to do what you really want to do. Is it animation you want to get into or any particular area of what your course covers?

Hey, when you come over you'll have to see if there is any oppotunity to visit Ealing, Sheperton or Pinewood studios. Don't know if they do visits there or if you might be able to get a work placement at any of them. Might be fun. Ealing is the closest to central London. You can always try the BBC and other London area TV studios if that is what you are looking for.

This might be of interest as a film making activity: New Thinkers Index. We have a local Camcorder clubs competition doing exactly the same thing!
