aw right! I was wondering because I was born in the ex-USSR, & we only got to know about Chernobyl disaster because Gorby was already in power & he insisted on 'glastnost' - the availability of information, & calling things by their name. If it were not for him the whole catastrophe would have been written off as a minor accident, or some tests, or whatever lie the Comi government would invent, & the damage would have been much greater, & many more people would have died.
