Thanks for the great imput! I was familiar in a way with the first one but I need to do lots of background reading. The first idea makes sense in the middle of a war, you could end the deaths of your own men and bring a stop to the war in the time it takes a bomb to go off. Of course nowadays we reflect on it and say how wrong it was.

I'm going to start working on an assignment for american history soon. The question asks for the reasons why America dropped bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Should be interesting.

I must give my acknowledgements to you Spock. I never thought that your thread would turn out well but you have proven me wrong. I am usually one for keeping the peace (i.e. avoiding public conversation on subjects that tend to irritate people) but it seems as if you have made TOS more peaceful in the long run.
