Default Post your favorite composers!

Alright, since there is a favorite artist thread I thought I'd make a thread specifically for classical music and discussions about classical music (I know there are some classical buffs more than me here on the forum). I'm excited to see what you guys have to offer

People that don't listen to classical music or people that are perhaps interested and look for recommendations can all of course post here. I am certain we are all happy to help.

I'll kick it off with this old fellow.

Yes, ol' Ludwig van! I saw the Ninth Symphony performed last August and it was glorious! I keep listening to that piece over and over; I'm trying to get a ton of his other works engrained in my head, but...I feel like there's still a lot for me to hear and appreciate.

Alright, well here's the composer who's undoubtedly my favorite:

...not just because I like his music a lot, but also because Aaron Copland was a pretty chill guy IMO. Always was his own man, never let criticism bother him too much, and remained cool as a cucumber while testifying before the House Un-American Activities Committee - ironic because of how his much his music was described as "American" (albeit not just USAmerican).

I'm a huge fan of Palestrina, Tomas Tallis, and Orlando di Lassus.

More modern composers would be Schubert, Brahms, Chopin, and Franz Biebl (who in my opinion is responsible for the most beautiful rendition of Ave Maria ever written.)

All the good stuff everyone mentions, including James Horner and Tchaikovsky, plus Clint Mansell, and I guess that's pretty much all I know without cheating (reaching out to other genres).

Originally yes, but I suppose modern orchestral composer could be welcome as well.

So what is your favorite musical era? Classical? Romantic? Baroque?

My era of choice is definitely the romanticism but I try to listen to some of the early classical stuff (Haydn and Mozart) and also a bit to the early 1900's (Shostakovitch, Stravinsky, Mahler, to mention a few).

They're all wonderful. I love baroque because of it's straightforwardness and ornamentation. Romantic has gorgeous impressionistic feeling to it.
If i had to pick I'd go with the renaissance because in my humble opinion, some of the most gorgeous choral music was written in that period. If you go to the music thread in the "Spirituality" sub-forum you can listen to several examples I've posted.
