Default Learning the tools of modern warfare...

"Learning the tools of modern warfare is the difference between the prospering of your people and utter destruction."

Seriously, even though I love the Na'vi culture, they need to learn some modern warfare from Jake to prepare for an RDA invasion, because next time, they might not get lucky. As long as these weapons of steel and polymers don't corrupt their culture and that they don't use it for anything other than self-defense, I think it's ok for Na'vi to carry guns around.

I doubt that the Na'vi would embrace Sky People's weapons and use them in combat. Probably Jake and all other humans who stayed on Pandora would use them, but the the Na'vi will just stick with their weapons. However, Jake could teach the Na'vi modern combat tactics, those would be extremely useful in case the Sky People return.

You've pretty much covered what was going to be my reply.

But do you think that modern military tactics would be useful when one is using bows and arrows and spears? I think not
If it was an open environment in which they were fighting, it would be completely unlikely that the Na'vi would win. Guns are just too destructive, they have power, range and are quick whereas Na'vi bows have decidedly less power, range and take a while to fire. However, in a close space environment, there is more of a chance of the Na'vi succeeding. Just look at how many Tsu'tey managed to pwn before he got shot

well if the humans still at hell's gate can salvage the weapons left there, jake could conceivably make a couple fire teams, maybe even a few platoons, all outfitted with guns. THEY would certainly need to know military maneuvers, he could do military drills with them.

the rest should rely on guerrilla warfare.

If you take the parallel of the Na'vi and the native Americans, then they would adopt the firearms. How do you think the colonies won the revolutionary war in America? We adopted many of the fighting tactics of the natives. The British though of it as uncivilized warfare. It was an asymmetrical conflict in many ways. I'm sure many know about the battle of the Little Big Horn. General Custer's troops were equipped with inferior single shot rifles. The Indians has superior repeating rifles and were able to defeat Custer's force. Well superior numbers didn't hurt either.

Maybe we will find out in the next film.

Perhaps the Na'vi can find some native super-weapons, like Titanotheres or something. Otherwise, they are going to get smashed by the RDA. The only other strategy is "spam"--there are bound to be more Na'vi than there would be RDA personnel on a single returning ISV. Horrendous casualties would result, however.

I would imagine that Eywa, having kicked the RDA's sorry butt one time, would not hesitate to do so again since they are disrupting the balance of life.

I have no interest in seeing the Na'vi use firearms, or any other type of technology, to be honest. It was weird enough seeing them use the voice communicators in the final battle, although I understand why they did. They have a sentient superbeing on their side, I think that more than offsets anything the humans might bring with them.

Yeah, I thought that was weird that Neytiri and Tu'sey were using the voice communicators.

I do think they could adopt the guns that Jake used in the final battle. I know the native americans adopted firearms. I am sure their battle tactics will change as a result of this war with the Sky People. It hurts to say it, but their pure way of life had already been corrupted when the Sky People came, and unfortunately, the Na'vi have been changed by this encounter.

An interesting idea, but it seems likely that the adoption of guns (unaltered) would see the death of conventional Na'vi tactics. The bows and arrows have the advantage of being silent, stealth weapons. The Na'vi are the perfect guerilla fighters being able to move either on the ground or through the canopy.

Yes, the Na'vi lose this advantage when fighting in the open, so I wouldn't expect them to do it... especially with Jake's martial smarts.

My concern would be that any RDA force that truly had invasion (and revenge) in mind as opposed to just material extraction/exploitation, and had half a brain would land pretty much directly on top of the plains clans and wipe them out from the air. Set up a base in the middle of a wide open area to maximise defensibility and then clear the forest inch by inch with heavy weapons support as they did. None of this "roads through the forest". If they wanted to go for extermination then they would clear it.

I can only hope that they would be prevented in doing so by the legal restrictions on their mercantile actions. Although, I don't have much faith in this.

Guns have the problem of ammo, something that is only likely to be available using the facilities at Hell's Gate... the addition of silencers to the weapons might make them useful again as an addition to the natural tactics of the Na'vi.

This, to me, is the least morally unpalateable option. Na'vi fighting as Na'vi but with guns instead of bows as a last resort against the RDA. It is still an unpalateable option though. I would not see their culture and ways changed any more than they already have been...

Yeah, there are restrictions on what military force they can bring/use, including no WMD (remember how many people who never read any of the background material keep bringing them up).

I knew about the WMD. What I am not sure about is if they can get away with the complete clearance of the forests and the utter extermination of the Na'vi... as long as it is managed without the use of WMDs.

This are my thoughts exactly. True, I hate the idea of having human technology corrupting the Na'vi, but they have few alternatives if they wish to survive. If they cling on to their traditional weapons, they wouldn't stand a chance, and having firearms would certainly improve their odds of survival. The Na'vi will almost certainly use suppressors (silencers) though, as it fits in with their stealth tactics.

As with an air war, my hope is that the stereolithography plant is still operational, and they can produce countermeasures to human weapons.

The Na'vi are too proud and connected(to Pandora/Eywa) a people to use Earth weapons extensively.
He already introduced them to 'modern warfare tactics', ground and air assault, guerrilla warfare (hiding in the floating mountains) He likely had a war council meeting with all the clan leaders to coordinate everyone. (That sounds like a good little cut scene fan fic... hmmm)
I don't see them adopting human weapons for battle in the future, though there's no doubt RDA (and Earth) wants their mining operation back online, but they have to rely on the military for support. There were no RDA forces in those ships, it was all Marines responding to Quaritches direction and the 'threat' of the Na'vi.
