Who do you think the other sky person was that The People tried to teach?

Do you think it was grace? Or someone else? If it was someone else what do you think happend to them?

It was never said who it was, but we have reason to assume that it is Grace, based partially on the contents of project 880.

Basically, the idea was the since Grace was older than Jake, and a scientist, she didn't conform to them very well and couldn't just let go of her work as a scientist.

To be honest, I'd be in a similar position. I'm a wildlife biology major; I'd be out there every day with a butterfly net and a bunch of (extra large) jars, catching things and examining them, turning over old logs, dipnetting in streams for fish and invertebrates, etc.

I don't know how easy it would be for me to give up my passion, and I think that was a part of why Jake just fell into place so easily; he had never had a "passion" for anything, and he liked the change of pace the Na'vi brought, and then he fell in love with Neytiri, and so being a Na'vi became his "passion"; this, I think, is what Mo'at meant about a "cup being full/empty".

What a fail for a first post, but welcome to ToS!

Back on topic, I don't like to think of Grace being the first one that the Na'vi would try and reach. I can maybe see Grace being a part, like trying to get someone to be a strong liason between the Na'vi and the Skypeople, kind of what Jake was supposed to be, but not herself. I think she would want to be, but inside she couldn't. Or she would rather be friends instead of becoming more intergrated.

I dunno if anyone understood that but it's hard to explain.

I agree with the above. As Raiden said, Grace had a lot of other interests as well as the Na'vi - she definitely cared for them, a lot, but couldn't dedicate herself to them until later. Of course, it's possible that the Na'vi considered her as having learned a lot, and just changed their opinion when the marines attacked the school.

I feel like the school is a good example of how sky people tried to teach them things but were in general nonreceptive to what they could have learned from the na'vi. It was probably either Grace, or else Mo'at was just speaking about humans generally.

How about when the SecOps Marines attacked the school? They are still called marines.

(and I have to say, it's not like the marines were unprovoked - they overreacted, yes, but they weren't unprovoked. And if Sylwannin and Co had any respect for the dangers of humans and their weapons, they wouldn't have been so 'OMG, THEY ARE ACTUALLY FIGHTING BACK, RUN AWAY')
