What is your legacy project?

I got this fortune cookie, oh, about a year or two ago. It really resonated with me, and I pasted it to the front of my journal as a constant reminder to myself. I just looked at it yesterday, something I do everyday, and for some reason, it jumped out at me. I've been contemplating it, and I wanted to share my thoughts. It says:

Quote:

"We are here to create, not merely survive."
Such profound advice from such an insignificant source...

Rather than material possessions and societal status, one should be more concerned with their legacy. Something to leave behind after you're gone, for others to find and maybe learn or grow from your experiences. Your legacy could be a great work of art, a novel, a piece of music - things that create joy for people, something that will out-live you. Your legacy could be as simple as a loving family, kids, grandkids, all with solid values and beliefs which they learned from you. A legacy could be something big; a movement, a club, a company focused on humanitarian and environmental activities. A legacy could be something small; a journal of your experiences and memories, even if only your family members read it. Stop wasting your time and start working on something that matters. Something that matters to you, and to the world.

How will you prove you've existed?

What is your legacy project?

Wow wonderfully said! Hmmm I'll have to mediate on this to give a complete answer haha can't think straight at the moment, kind of tired, but great post, I would love to see peoples legacies!

My passion is history. It is my all time favorite thing to read about, watch movies based on historical events, documentaries etc.

I plan on having a career in something involving history. I would possibly like to specialize perhaps in a certain period, like ancient history, or even WWII era events.

Something else I really think I would enjoy is being an archaeologist, I could travel the world and work at many different excavation sites.

In regards to leaving a reminder that I existed, if I become an archaeologist I hope to make a very important or significant find and have that find change the history books. What ever I do, I hope to make an important discovery and have myself remembered as the person that "found that" or "he discovered that" etc.

EDIT: Thought I should also add that another subject that I am VERY interested in is outer space, the solar system, the planets, galaxies, the entire universe. I just think that it is SO amazing how extremely massive the universe truly is, and that there could be another planet exactly like Earth. This is a post of mine from a different thread:

Quote:

I, for one think that we are not the only intelligent life forms in the universe. The universe is so massive that there has to be another planet out there with human-like beings.

Earth cannot be the only planet with life on it.

I mean, what if there really is another Earth-like planet out there, with its own civilization and has been out there for as long as Earth, maybe they are so technologically advanced that it puts our tech to shame. Maybe they are watching us right now with their incredibly advanced tech.

Think about it.
I mean, the possibility that there is another Earth-like planet out there somewhere, with a civilization much like ours, governments, countries, laws, technology etc, has to be one of the most intriguing and interesting topics around.

Who knows, maybe this is a field I will delve into and make a career out of it.

Actually, I really love the field of science.. and although my forte is in chemistry at the moment, I find that bio is really one of the untapped areas- there's just so much that's undiscovered..

The thought of knowing how we work, how things us are in general (macro concepts of the world etc) and stuff really interests me..

My legacy? I honestly don't know:(

Human No More 04-29-2010 09:35 PM

I don't know. Possibly one of the causes I contribute to such as the Open Rights Group and National Secular Society. I've also been meaning to maybe have a look at some open source projects as well, but don't really have the time at the moment.

I have contemplated this before and I have no idea. :( lol

i don't have one now, but i have a quote that fits well with this thread:
Quote:

When does a man die? Is it when he is killed? no.
It is when he is forgotten.

I used to be like that. It's an expression of vanity I think. Now I don't even care. Life is too short to concern yourself about such things.

That- is true.
We are so concerned about the future that we forget to act in the present.

Fighter-of-Wars 04-30-2010 03:46 AM

I have thought about this too. Another quote that comes to mind is one from Gladiator and another from Atlantis.

"What we do in life, echoes in eternity."

"Our lives are remembered by the gifts we give our children."

I want to build something that will out live me, it is hard to see this now because I'm only 18 and building something to last 50-60 years plus extra is something hard to fathom. But I feel that I can. I have made many things that I use a lot already, mostly tools.

I built a Hammer in welding class.
A seeder crank.
I am in the process of restoring a truck, almost done.
I have built 3 computers which won't last long before they are discarded because technology is always growing.
I completely rebuilt a truck engine, which I hope lasts a long time.

I am still young and these are all materialistic things and some are small. But, I have learned from these things, which as all part of growing.

What I want to have is a family and pass my knowledge of things I have done, learned, and experienced onto my children. That I think is the ultimate legacy

Another one of my favorite movies! Atlantis is so under-appreciated.

That was surprisingly a good film... come to think of it, it's a bit like Avatar...

...In fact, it strongly resembles Avatar! :D

My legacy will be (not might be) film score. I will create some of the most memorable music for movies that will be attributed to my ability to compose. That is my life's goal.

Re: What is your legacy project?

I don't have one yet, but know I will soon. Thanks to Avatar, I feel more of a sense of purpose, and am actively seeking something worthwhile to put my efforts into. My time volunteering in Yosemite is where I start.

Have you composed things before? I suck at composing for bands XD I can play the music but would not do good if I had to make a score hahaha
