Just like I hate clothes which are just some brand name (and those are always brands I would never want to associate myself with either) - 99% of the time, I wear metal band tshirts or ones with computer references/jokes, because that's what I like, it's what I feel comfortable with.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to get at. I have jeans that are falling apart too (you should see the ones I'm wearing right now :P), but I object to the practice of selling defective merchandise at inflated prices in the name of "fashion." I also don't like the idea of paying more for the privilege of advertising brand names -- if I'm going to wear something on my shirt, it's because I want to, not because the local department store wants me to. :) I don't really care what other people wear either -- it's all personal preference.

Lovely. I don't listen to the radio (for music) either -- around here, almost everything is owned by Clear Channel and it's all the same garbage. I'd rather listen to the Avatar soundtrack. :)

I agree on Mune with this one i really do.. except for the colours thing cause i like colours.. especially blue haha

and you go Pa'li!! that is the right attitude to have!! see after I saw Avatar, i actually stopped wearing makeup ENTIRELY i hate it.. its not me. its like im wearing a mask.. and i dont straighten my hair EVER...(not anymore haha i used to but only a few times a year haha) and i dont EVER wear heels either.. i sold my nice boots to someone cause they hurt my feet and its pointles.. but all in all its true that we should not be slaves ever and should have our own way of living.. and i think so too the tribes are very beautiful and natural people.. cause they dont believe in our world.. sometimes i wish i could be one of them, but it would be so hard to adapt to such an environment after being in the one i am in now :P haha
but yeah, WE SHOULD BE OURSELVES AND NO ONE ELSE!!!
i do admit i wear like short shorts in the summer and tanks and stuf.. but only cause its comfortable, not because i wanna look like a skank, but because in the summer it gets pretty warm and if i wear a little less it makes it alittle more cooler and more comfortable.. plus im trying to up my self esteem :) it helps! haha i dont care how people look at me.. this is me.. and i will do what i want.. and i wear flip flops with a skirt.. i dont care,,.. its comfy haha

Ally, you speak the truth :)
*Hugs Ally*
I haven't worn make up since watching Avatar either, granted I have a bit of reddish colour in my cheeks, but I think I look better with that than looking like a pale ghoul in make up *high fours Ally*
I wear a tank top and shorts for as long as I can, even in winter and I wear flip flops too: because they are comfy and easy to put on..
I remember I used to have dresses that took 10 mins to put on and off if I wanted to look nice for an occasion. I know that we don't really need such uncomfortable clothes. :)

allycat 05-04-2010 02:46 PM

thanks for coming into the forum tallbluewanderer!! you words were very nice and spoke nothing but the truth :D

and rapunzel, you are right about the tribes.. they do other things for beauty which are not comfortable either.. at least its not being clones though lol!! i dont like the certain things they do to people for beauty.. especialy if it's cruel!

aww thanks Pa'li!!

omg its like Avatar changed us.. for the better!! :D i am so glad you dont wear makeup either! i mean i cant judge who wears it, that is their choice i just kinda feel bad that they have the need to wear it cause they feel naked without it or whatever.. seriously.. why? its not who we are anyway.. maybe we should show us better than before :D haha its better to have the rosy natural cheeks.. thats cute :D

thats the thing! flipflops are the easiest footwear. your foot feels soo free.. and some are SO comfortable.. it doesnt feel like you are wearing anything on your feet :D
haha now those dresses are a pain in the butt.. like why? whats the point in taking long to get dressed into something that is not comfortable anyway haha

Oh yea. Even when I did play a wide range of music I have learned at parties like these you can't please everyone... (can I DJ at a rave yet?) WOAH off topic! Sorry :P I'm terrible at that

:( that's a sad experience. I'm curious, have you tried DJ'ing at weddings? It would probably be worse (my wedding is ruined, the DJ didn't have my favorite song, yada, yada, yada).

That kind of music isn't really music. It is so pre-packaged and false sounding. Its true that you can't please everyone and I know you are in a tough position because you are the DJ and people have higher expectations of getting their way.

I was asked to DJ for a friends wedding in September... if I'm still on then this will be my first one... I just don't see myself doing it often... when I DJ I want to dance all night long, from set up to tear down :)

But yea I do fear these things whenever I get a call to do someones party, now if its a small "rave" my friend and I put on at each others house... well then thats a night that I look forword too :D

But I do ask that if people have music they want played to talk to me ahead of time so I can get it... one bad experience I had with that was a woman kept procrastinating sending me all the music, so she sent it a day ahead but for some reason didn't go through the e-mail and she didn't save it so she sent it to me again at 2am Friday morning and Friday night was the girls 16th birthday party... and the next day I had work and college so she was upset I didn't get any of the music she wanted... wasn't my fault haha

I don't judge and I can't hate, but seriously some (actually all) of the mainstream stuff is terrible... but I don't judge the people who like it and bash on them for it because I've been hated on and been told many upsetting things about the music I LOVE (techno/trance/electronic/rave/dubstep/house) and even AVATAR (which is what really changed my attitude)... its just attending raves, concerts, and holding small "raves" just lets me feel so free... it's a chance to let go of my worries of tomorrow, the worries of the week, and just spend time with others who won't judge you (kind of like here, but here is obviously better we're so much closer and understanding) and just having fun. The flashing lasers, cool lighting effects, people giving light shows with their rave gloves, plus the music... the music grabs a hold of my soul and embraces it and doesnt let go... one trance concert I went to (whos name I cannot remember) one song was so beautiful I started crying right there... its those types of events I wish could just be a private one for all of us on the ToS, to be with each other and dance the night away... actually I'm going to try to get a hold of Insomniac Events (they held a huge rave called Beyond Wonderland to celebrate the release of Alice in Wonderland) because it got me thinking "Pandora so much more deserves a rave" and it would work out perfectly with the date because December 18th was the opening night of Avatar here (I don't know about elsewhere) and this year December 18th is a Saturday, so I'm going to try to get a hold of them about that... holy crap there I went again!

Agreed I don't think I mentioned this before but driving as well... people are so insane on the road like just Saturday I went for a cruise on Foothill (part of Route 66) and geez, I was already going like 53mph in a 45mph zone and people were still tailgating me... I'm thinking "Its a Saturday where in the world do you all have to speed to? You just can't sit back and relax and enjoy the ride? Listen to some music and roll down your windows and enjoy the outside air" actually that day was gorgeous perfect weather but still others make it pretty much no fun to just go on a drive anymore

Txantsulsam Fyawintxu 05-04-2010 07:27 PM

AllyCat, nothing compares to the beauty we all have within us... Do not worry about what others have to say about your outer beauty, for it all fades from time to time. Seek instead the beauty that already lies within you and it shall pass on. :)

*hugs*

allycat 05-05-2010 03:37 AM

wow thank you so much for your kind words^^ you truly are sweet! you have the best point.. it is true.. its what is within us as a person, not the outside :P that is just a plus :P

Stanley, im sorry to hear about your car drives :( i wish we could enjoy things alittle bit more.. maybe people dont get enough excersize and fresh air cause they dont enjoy it with the people surrounding them, they dont wanna go outside.. with everyone looking.. i know the feeling.. it sucks :( so i feel for you *hugs*

tm20 05-05-2010 06:14 AM

Yes, looks are nearly everything today. People make their frst judgements by looks. Even I do. If I see someone fully dressed in lots and lots of layers of clothing, sunglasses and shopping bags I think.... WOW, what a waste of money, that person sees joy in only materialistic things, which may be wrong to think BUT as humans we can't help it.

Recently in Sydney they put this poster on every single bus stop

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4057/...1647e27156.jpg

and I just thought, people are probably going to go to the nearest sunglass store to pick up the latest pair of sunglasses because looks are everything and what they see on ads/magazines/tv is what the standard is..... there is no standard. the person in the poster doesn't even look like a person. it looks fake.

Another example, there is another poster again, advertising readin glasses, and it says "77% of people think glasses makes you look smarter" and in my head I answered with "YEAH that's because 77% of people judge others by their looks". Yeah, I sound like a negative ******* but i guess this is the person I have become after being told by so many people what i should wear and how i should look over the years.

Pa'li Makto 05-05-2010 11:29 AM

Woah I had no idea they had these up in Sydney *high hours tm20*
It makes me sad to see these..but then again Sydney seems to be full of people who are always have a high opinion of their status and possessions..
I definitely agree with you, that woman in the person looks fake..like a wax doll..

tm20 05-05-2010 11:45 AM

well, i have met many great people in sydney that don't judge people by their looks but i went to a private school and it could be the same at other private schools as well, but there were many rich snobs at my school. For 6 years i was surrounded by these people and sometimes i wish i could just leave but it taught me to not judge people.

it's also the same in other places i have been. Japan and Hong Kong are places where you will always see people buying lots of crap. I dress very casual- my rule is if it's not comfortable then don't wear it. anyway, maybe it's because i look different to most japanese/cantonese people but i always get stared at. maybe it's my clothes, maybe it's how i look, but it does get a bit annoying.

I also was surrounded by people who would always judge other people's taste in woman and this was really annoying. I got told i am weird because i don't mind if a girl is a certain race or is a little overweight.... well i never/hardly talk to these people anymore.

Pa'li Makto 05-05-2010 11:50 AM

Naww you sound like me: apart from the private schooling.
I dress in comfy clothes, and at school surrounded myself with social deviants becuase we couldn't fit in if we wanted too. We were always judged because we wore metal shirts and comfy clothes..but we were happy in our own skin.
The judging of peoples taste in women frightens me: I wouldn't think that that would be anyone else's business, nor that people could be that unfeeling and shallow.
If someone makes you feel loved and happy: then that's all you need, looks don't matter at all.

tm20 05-05-2010 12:04 PM

yeah, if someone makes you happy than nothing else matters. BTW do you mean metal shirts as in metal band shirts? if so then they are awsome. :D

I also want to state another thing. So many people I see wear the same stuff as each other (or maybe not but to me it just looks like it) I maybe wrong but to me it seems everyone is a sheep and they just follow each other. If you're nt a sheep than you are considered an outcast/loner/weirdo.. Again, I will use my school as an example. One day my shoes broke and i needed another pair so i decided to get some black and white converses. Why? Because it was comfortable and it was only $60. So i go back to school and EVERYONE says my shoes suck because they are 40 years old. This one guy, who is obsessed with fashion (he used to buy a pair of jeans a week for a certain period of time in year 10 -_-) said i had no sense of fashion at all. My response....... riiiiiiiiiiiiiight...... go tell someone who cares. BUT after about a month or so people start wearing converses and the douch who criticised me has got himself 2 ****EN PAIRS. I couldn't believe it.

I also had a pair of Nike Air Force ones which I bought also because it was cheap and my mum insisted I get another pair of shoes (always forcing me to buy unnesecary crap when i was young -_-) so i go to school with my nikes, then one person notices my shoes. Then another and another and another. Soon, all the wannabe gangstas are wearing nikes. They just copied each other.

For my birthday last year my friends bought me jeans and 2 expensive shirts. It was very nice of them to do so, but why did they? because my fashion needs to be up to today's standard ....... WTF. not knowing if it looked good on me or not, i just asked the shop assistant how i looked and she said i look good (obviously she just wanted to make a sale :rotfl:) and i never wear the clothes anyway :P

Well, remember everyone. Just be who you want to be. Don;t feel pressured into following everyone else

allycat 05-05-2010 03:06 PM

WOW that girl in the add looks so fake she looks like plastic wax!!!

I see what you mean by all this! it isnt the clothes its the person! i am so sorry to hear about what happened to you tm20!! that wasnt fair that people were so stupid ... always copying each other.. its wrong :P im glad you came on here

Aquaplant 05-05-2010 03:51 PM

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's a truly wise old saying, because it acknowledges the fact that beauty, like many other things, are highly subjective and vary greatly betweend different individuals. Also there is the issue of inner beauty, and it also plays, or at least should play a bigger role in those things in general.

But then again who am I to talk about beauty, outer or inner, when I don't even truly understand what it really is?

allycat 05-05-2010 03:52 PM

its true ^^ beauty is a complicatin thing :P but you are right about the inner beauty.. it NEEDS to play a bigger role in this society.. cause things are just starting to get worse :(

Ouch, that picture looks awful and I agree with HNM, I was wondering if it was a real person. She looks like a plastic doll. It is sad that so many people in this world judge you by how you look, the clothes you wear, and what possessions that you have. Granted, one can get in an insight into the person's personality/iinterests, etc by what they have but one shouldn't judge them by it. That is why I stress being yourself. Don't care what others think about you :).

its true.. there is so much pressure to look plastic.. i have to say.. sorry if anyone has ever played with Barbie, but she is one of the WORST corrupting toys of our century.. she is plastic and perfect looking and girly, and all or most girls wanna grow up being like their favourite toy.. an easy blonde.. now thats not right is it?? this toy is not setting enough good examples for women out there.. it should be banned :(

wow tallbluewanderer.. thats kinda disturbing.. but it fits well with that pic! lol

I dislike Barbie also. It doesn't give kids the right message. Not only has she got unrealistic beauty standards, but, I can't help but think that she gives a somewhat "ditzy/dumb" persona to females. I dunno...she also seems to just get everything in life without any effort. Okay, I KNOW it's just a toy (xD) but still, this message may register in the subconciousness of an impressionable child.

allycat 05-06-2010 08:05 PM

you are totally right! it gives them the COMPLETE wrong message! and to know my mom played with Barbie -_- *shivers* i never did.. i didnt like dolls (for once in my life im smart lol!) it is true! the beauty standards.. the getting everyting without effort.. the ditzy dumb blonde.. all comes from her! people started to become clones since she came along! To true. My mom never let me play with Barbie. I admit that I did at some friend's houses but that was it. I also didn't play with dolls much. Instead I would make up stories with my stuffed animals and my My little ponies. The stuffed animals ended up having many battles on my bed and I think there was a siege or two. I know some of it involved evil queens and knights :).
