Must do

hello fellow ToS members

I'm watching Avatar right now...in my room. I just thought to myself..what's wrong with this picture ?

I should totally be watching this movie outside ! sitting on the grass with the wind blowing in the trees. So I have no idea how I'll pull this off as I don't have a backyard...but I'll do it somehow...and I'll watch it with nothing but trees and plants around.

If you guys have suggestion how I can pull it off...I'll be happy to hear them !
one of my friends have a projector and a screen...with a lot of luck he'll let me borrow it. If I have to watch it might as well be on a 130" screen.

anyway I'd like to hear what you think of this...is this a good idea ?

A projector is probably the easiest way. Make sure you have a plan for if it starts to rain though!
You'll probably need to do it when it's dark, I guess.
Without a garden, finding somewhere will be the issue, and you'll also need a screen to project onto.

Good luck :)

i should definatly do this. so should you.

Man, that is such a good idea. I can feel the warmth of a small campfire, the leaves rustling in the gentle breeze, and the presence of my tribe around me as Jake is first waking up from cryogenic sleep on the screen before us. The night would grow colder to be sure, but the warmth of that campfire would be replaced by the unity that Avatar builds in the souls of its watchers, those that really understand it, anyway.

I guess this is the Deep Woods version of your idea, Logan. I say go for it!

If you do plan on watching it outside in complete daylight, be aware the image given from the projector will look washed out (colors wont look good). Projectors are best if used at night when there is absolutely no light.

my friend has the screen to project the movie on, you wanna make sure to check the weather channel before doing it..:P

I'll watch it at night time...of course

I would be awesome to have lots of people to watch it with me !!

2 choises:

a. Watch it at night in -40°F weather or
b. Watch it at night in the sunlight.

Just make sure your laptop has a good charge and take it outside with the DVD!

That'd be the easiest way to do it. But the projector would be WAY cooler :)

Right now, it should be dark enough by 2 am:P

Awesome idea! I could borrow a projector, I've got my amp and DJ speakers, now I just need a screen... awesome idea though!

Fkeu'itan 05-04-2010 12:11 PM

What kind of question is that? Of course you should do it! :P

rapunzel77 05-04-2010 05:49 PM

If you do it make sure its at night. The glare from the sun will wash out the color and some things might be harder to see.

tm20 05-05-2010 08:12 AM

well, the easiest way would be to watch it on a laptop as you can easily take it outside BUT watching Avatar on a small screen doesn't do it justice... SO you must watch it on a big screen. If you can hang a screen from a tree and bring a generator to supply power for the projector and laptop then maybe you could watch the movie outside, not only that but you could attract other people as well :D or maybe hang a large poster (the back side which is all white) or hang a screen from the trunk of your car and project it from there, hook up the projector to the car battery and it should be good. Just drive to somewhere nice and quiet. And also remember to bring speakers.

Just a thought, would it be illegal? Because you would technically be broadcasting in a public place wouldn't you? I don't know whet the law states in the US, but over here i'm not sure if you could do it without a broadcasting liscence...

Human No More 05-05-2010 05:53 PM

I'm not sure, because you could then apply the same logic to every time you watch it which is visible from outside your window.
If you were actually making it open to public, then I guess that would be different.

Standard disclaimer, laws might be different where you are, IANAL, etc.
