Skyperson, as demonstrated by the movie, is an achieved status. So is "Na'vi".

Valid point. Often times we can be externally depressed by our own human creations and surroundings.

Here at least, spring is coming. Soon, it is time to go outside more often again, experience living beings around us. We will have bees this year - this is going to be interesting. Soon it will be warm enough to go barefoot again and in a few weeks, one can probably even try to go swimming in the lakes again or go hiking in the mountains... :D
Last week we saw beaver marks and trees felled by them and their homes at a river nearby that was renaturated. Today I again saw hares and deer while walking with the dogs (I need to see them before my dogs do so I can keep them from chasing after them). I have found again a beautiful spot in the forest, mythical and beautiful. Maybe I can make a photo one day and post it here :D

I feel you brother, I'm in England too, we have so much light pollution.

You can find good places in England. I was there a few weeks ago and staying in the green areas of Suffolk in this map: ROBIN'S ASTRONOMY PAGE light_pollution_uk1 . Could see rifts in the Milky Way. A quick train trip on NXEA...

I think it's always important to look at the story of Pandora as a version of our own story on Earth. We used to be very much like the na'vi, and though progress has brought us very far away from nature in some cases, I still think we can achieve what they have someday here, or I hope :hmm:

Human No More 08-02-2011 11:21 PM

It's true, but that doesn't do anything about things like how beautiful the Na'vi themselves are, or places on Pandora, or their own capabilities like tsaheylu, and things that exist like ikran... that is what I really want :'(

i have to admit, i am one of those who totally loves the movie, but when it comes to the end, i even leave the credits running, unwilling to let go of the dream. i am disabled, with numerous illnesses and an old injury that is causing more pain the older i get (52 years old this May). i used to be able to use a service dog, but with the pain of the old injury increasing, and doctors cant fix it, and my weakness increasing, i am housebound, needing to lie down often to ease the pain.

i almost envy Jake his strength in human form, to be able to use a wheelchair so easily...im too weak to use one. (but that is one cool chair, and very expensive with those wheels!) so when he wakes in his avatar, i can **so** relate to his joy at regaining his mobility. i wish so much that this were possible...but like his situation, the Medicaid of my state severely limits what kind of medical help i can have.

so,in many ways, its a matter of trying to find ways to distract myself from depression. the movie both is a help and doesnt help. beauty, the elegace of Neytiri, watching a movie where *finally* the Manifest Destiny people get their heads handed to them and the native people win....that helps.

Human No More 01-04-2012 02:39 AM

Good to hear it helps... That's something :)

Welcome, and I'm sorry that your choices are so restricted... especially by the state, which should know better. It sounds like Avatar has shown you that your imagination can supply you with hope - not for change in your circumstances so much as hope for feeling better.
