Love
What is love? You always here people saying, "I love you buddy" to a friend or family member, or "I love you" to your lifemate
1) Eros Love - this is also known as "erotic love". This is the sex type love, and can be emotional. 2) Philo Love - This is the brotherly type of love, a friendship between two people 3) Agape Love - Unconditional love... the highest form of love. I got the two sources for these three types of love from here and here if you want to read the blogs. What I want this thread to be is a discussion of the three loves. What do you think love is? How do you show it? |
I think it's all three of those things, haha, you basically put my response in your post ;]
Also, because I had to: |
Love as I see it is where you and someone else, close friend, family, mate have a connection that can't be broken easily, its where you would go above and beyond normal means to do something for them. Sit beside them while they are sick for days, talk with them when they are troubled, truly hug them when they are sad, be there at a moments notice. That is what I think love is.
|
to me, thinking about love is a good thing :P so this is a nice thread! i like it! I approve :D:D
i like all those loves you posted.. each one awesome in their own way haha |
It can be any of those, or more than one.
|
love is like you can share your soul with anyone. you aren't afraid to be with them, and it something universal, that should be spread alot more, especially in today's world. it is being covered up by the establisment so much, it isnt cool

What is love? This is what I think love is and how to live it.
"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of when it has been wronged. It is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." |
^^ that quote is awesome lol

For me, love can't be explain...it's like why are we on earth?
It's a philosophical question and i think everybody have his own ideas and i don't think that one day we'll have an answer...i hope! Love can be happy, sad...a lot of things, so i will say like the beatles: Love is old, love is new, love is all, love is you (Because - The Beatles) |
I think I think too deeply about love... but then again how will I understand it if I don't think deeply about things like that?
|
Thanks for reminding me of the pain of love. ;)
But on a more positive note, I found another source that includes a triangle with different forms at each point. It's very pertinent to me, I'm not sure about you. http://sudharshan.files.wordpress.co...ove-image1.gif |
The three loves you have pointed out are three of the forms of love. Love is the most powerful force in the world. I believe it was love that created the universe. That is why we are all here. Each of us is special and unique. Each of us has the capacity for love.
Love isn't easy though. There is pain and suffering attached to love. This is also why love is far more than "fuzzy" feelings. Love requires an act of the will and the need to sacrifice. Love enables men to do far greater feats than power or greed can ever do. Love expects nothing in return. That is also a part that can be painful but it is the only way. Love will find that your heart is able to give so much even when it might seem empty. It is love that gets people through the most terrible of trials weather it is carrying for a sick loved one even though you know they are terminal. It is there when a parent will lay down their life to save their child. It is also evident when people who are fighting for the home, their family, the country are willing to sacrifice everything, including their life to save them. True love does not put any conditions on the beloved (ie. I will love you if.....). True love accepts the beloved as they are, not what you want them to be. Love also requires patience, kindness, honesty, and truth. It requires compassion and empathy. It requires that one shut up and listen to the other, especially in the midst of their pain and suffering. Love bears all things. Love takes the burdens on themselves so that their beloved has less to worry about. This is true love. There are other forms that are not really love. We say that we love pizza, movies, cars, etc. That isn't the same kind of love. That is more an attachment to things. Unfortunately, the English language is very limiting in its definitions of love. We only have one word to describe all of them. I guess that is also why it can sound so cliched since it is used for everything. |
Please

Well isn't this a sappy thread.
*Hits the thread with the hammer of reality* One can talk about luxury things like love when life is easy, but the moment things start to go wrong, the concept of love devaluates to nothing. |
That's what unconditional love is for... You love someone so much your willing to sacrafice yourself for them, you love someone even ifyou fight there's still that love... Unfortunatly society thinks it's okay to break their vows of love to each other and get a divorce and hate each other... They didn't know what unconditional love is

As rapunzel said, I believe there are even more forms of love than just these three.
For example, I actually do genuinely love some songs. They hold such a significance for me, I can really honestly say they matter a lot to me. As far as i'm concerned, love is when you share a deep connection with literally anything. The definitions of love are difficult to understand, but when you use that word in the context, in the moment, both you and whatever you are referring to understand what it means. Not on a language level, rather, an emotionally interpretive level. |
It's impossible to measure and confine Love... It's like trying to define the impossible. ;) :) Love is there to be experienced and expressed for each individual. At best, it is like the Sun. You can see that the Sun doesn't reserve its rays of light for just a select few, but rather for all of creation. :D That's the best way I can accurately describe it. The rest fall away by itself. ;)

I have a problem with things that can't be reasoned in any proper way. Everything happens for a reason, but what is the reason for love? Does it serve any purpose, or is it just a thing used to explain affection?
As I have so little experience on the matter, the only thing I can do is to observe and speculate, which has yet to produce any substantial results. |

Love can give you an experience beyond any other. Unfortunately it can also give you untenable pain. |
