Walk with me :D

Hello forums!!
Today I decided to go for a walk to a couple of my favourite spots, and put a few pics up for y'all to see what my hometown looks like :) I was going to write a deep and meaningful message to you all in general (about how happy I am to be a part of this community, about how grateful I feel to have 'met' all my friends, how I See you all, etc. etc. etc. - stuff I blab on about all the time anyway), but that didn't really happen. But anyway. Here are some snaps from Howick, in New Zealand.

This is Mellons Bay Beach; one of my favourite places :) Not the best pic but it shows the stormwater drain going straight into it... it's now one of the most polluted beaches in the area :( Such a shame because it really is beautiful, and now we have just wasted it.

More of the beach:

Choppy water, grey skies, and that island in the background is one of Auckland's most famous; Rangitoto Island.

The sun came out so I got wet :D

Aaand, moving on, this is a view near where I used to live, you can see Rangitoto in the distance, and those playing fields are part of my old high school.

Aaaand by now it was starting to rain on me a little bit - I'm annoyed because the views are so stunning when it's a sunny, cloudless day! Ah well. Last one, view of Eastern Beach from atop the cliffs:

Anyway, there we go. I will put some more on my profile here but just felt like showing anyone who's interested.

Walk with me :D

wow!!!! You have such beautiful surroundings tsmuke! I'd love to visit those places. Pandora on earth isn't so far away from you! Very lucky indeed. Thank you so much for sharing.

Fighter-of-Wars 05-18-2010 05:03 AM

You live in a very beautiful place. It is sad how people always can seem to leave a mark on the most wonderful and harmless of places but they glitter still shines through.

Thanks so much for the pics.

Stanley_9875 05-18-2010 05:07 AM

Wow amazing ma tsmuke! So happy you get to live in such a beautiful place I wish I was there to enjoy it with you :) wide open field, nice waters (probably not the cleanest) but so gorgeous

josie20 05-18-2010 05:12 AM

Wow, a very beautiful place. I am jealous. ;) I love the rain, though. Rain is beautiful. :)

Autumnshire 05-18-2010 05:16 AM

Yesss rain is beautiful, I admit that. I was just hoping for some good light and calm water, even though the pic quality is terrible and I'm no photographer.

josie20 05-18-2010 05:21 AM

The pic quality is fine, and the photographs are beautiful. You take awesome photos. :)

txen 05-18-2010 05:30 AM

Looking good. New Zealand is definitely on my list of places to visit.

It great to have such nice places around you and better to have the time to go out to them. I need to work on that time part.

Spock 05-18-2010 05:53 AM

Coolness incarnate my love. :)

I had some cool photos from my south island trip but dad has them down in the Bay of Plenty :(

Taw Makto 05-18-2010 06:14 AM

Achingly beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Walks like that around where I live...gotta watch out for rattlesnakes! ;)

Autumnshire 05-18-2010 06:33 AM

Eeeeh!!! We have 0 snakes in NZ (not even allowed them in zoos). I don't think I would like to meet one.

There are plenty of them here in the southwesten US. If you live on the edge of the city you tend to see several of them. I have had a few in my backyard where I am at now. At another place that I lived they would on occasion get inside the house. Nothing like meeting a rattler on the way to the kitchen at 5am. I didn't need any coffee that morning.

They are not really that bad though. You just have to respect them.

Yeah, I guess so. I would like to *see* snakes someday, just not meet one... in the kitchen... at 5am.
I'm sure I'd like them. But, from a good distance away.

Walk with me :D

Human No More 05-18-2010 08:09 AM

Those are beautiful... :)

tm20 05-18-2010 09:41 AM

Nice pics, New Zealand is very beautiful. I went there after graduating highschool with 3 friends and easily it was the best holiday ever ever! Where in New Zealand is that? I only went around the south island.

Autumnshire 05-18-2010 09:44 AM

Ohh nice!!! It's up at the east coast of the North Island. Shocking, but, I have never ever been to the South Island. I bet you saw some amazing things; it's the best part of NZ :) I'll have to get out and explore it sometime soon.

You'll have to go there. I went with my father back in 05. Truly wonderful scenery and some great experiences too.

tm20 05-18-2010 10:10 AM

It was awsome, we did so many things:
-walked through a rainforest then into a cave and saw glow worms, also went back outside and slid down a natural water slide :D
-ate awsome food (and drank LOTS of beer)
-bungee jumping
-speed boating (near Queenstown)
-went to see one of the glaciers
-luging (SOOOO AWSOME!)
-saw many beatiful sites
-went to a puzzle/maze place
-went to an awsome put put golf place

and many more things, i hope to go back in the future

True, I did all those things, except for the bungee. Also went on the tranz-alpine train thing to greymouth. Some beautiful scenery through Arthur's pass.

Fkeu'itan 05-18-2010 12:29 PM

Really, really beautiful photographs Autumn. I'm really jealous! :)

LOGAN 05-18-2010 02:02 PM

absolutely amazing pictures !
I will definitely be seeing NZ in a not so distant future !

omaticaya 05-18-2010 02:55 PM

Everybody already said it and I can just agree: It's very beautiful where you live or in Grace's words: You lucky swine.

Amazing pictures, they make me want to go there. I'm glad for you that you had the time to have a nice walk.
And what a shame that this nice beach is polluted. Stupid humans. So it's not possible to swim there?

Leonopteryx 05-18-2010 04:51 PM

mind it i, uh stop by, and walk along the beach? :P
really though, its a really nice place...

madman 05-18-2010 05:40 PM

I just love your post Autumnshire.. I love the concept of taking us on a walk with you. I wish more people would do this type of thing. Perhaps I will take a few photo's on my jog and show everyone my world :)

Again, awesome photo's and thank you for sharing!

rapunzel77 05-18-2010 06:11 PM

Wow, beautiful pics Autumnshire even with the rain :). Its sad that that beautiful beach is also very polluted. I wish I had a camera. I would like to take some pics around here, or at least at the beach. It isn't much and the sand isn't white :(. We have gray sand and it is very eroded due to various factors...mostly because of the hurricanes that we had a couple of years ago.

I work at a university that has lots of wildlife and vegetation. Those would be nice to show :). I'll see what I can do.

madman 05-18-2010 06:19 PM

Walk with me :D

take us on a walk ma tsmuke!

I believe you've just about summed it up, omaticaya. Autumnshire: awesome! I haven't been to a beach in a while -- these pictures make me want to go and take a walk at one. I'll have to take some photographs the next time I'm taking a walk at my university ... the scenery isn't particularly fantastic, but there are some nice spots here and there. :)

Hehe thanks :) Hmm, no, it's not really advisable to swim there, although people still do, and I have once or twice and it was ok.

Doooooooo it!!!! Walk :D I just find it so interesting, where everybody comes from and where they live and what they enjoy :D Again, I'm going to post another thread hopefully when I have the better camera and a really nice day - there were lots of places I wanted to go to and show you guys but didn't get to.

Read C. 05-19-2010 07:24 AM

My first time seeing these. Very beautiful. I'm definitely adding New Zealand to my "someday" itinerary!

Autumnshire 05-19-2010 08:23 AM

Yay, good to hear!! The pics certainly don't do NZ justice. One day I'll have some stunning ones to show you guys and lure you over with, haha :D

guyguy 05-19-2010 08:34 AM

Fkeu'itan 05-20-2010 03:48 PM

And a very nice pic it is too. :) What part of the world is this?

Tu'te 05-20-2010 07:32 PM

Hi Autumshire,

Indeed they are most beautiful and tranquil; the water lines are calling me to run alongside them, or swim across :)

I'd defo have a go at painting a few of your fav places...

Great post, thanks for sharing.

PS: Not sure if this'll work, but here's a couple of phot's of our local Blue-Bell wood I posted over on AF. Not as dramatic, but still magical :) + the boys love running about the different tracks & climbing up the trees LOL

The 'feeling' again; whilst walking (pickies too)
