Real Pandora vs. Matrix Pandora
Edit: Sorry I screwed up the poll. It's fine now.
Which world would you choose? (One choice per person, and it's irreversible) Matrix Pandora A: It's just like the movie Matrix. You are wired up in a tube and live in a virtual world of Pandora, which is almost identical to James Cameron's Pandora. You get to choose to be yourself, Jake, Neytiri, or anyone else in Avatar, but you can choose only once. If you die in the jungle, Eywa will revive you. Basically, you can't die in this virtual world until your physical body dies in the tube. Matrix Pandora B: It's just like Matrix Pandora A, except you do not know you are living in a virtual world. You'll feel just like you went to Pandora for real. Real Pandora: This is pretty much James Cameron's Pandora, except humans have yet to set foot on the planet. Yes, once you are on Pandora you can choose your Avatar and play with Neytiri. |
You should define Matrix Pandora more detailed. Anyway real pandora is my choice :). And I don't want to be enslaved by AI...
|
I screwed up. I pressed "submit" without posting anything...
I was going to post the details, but while I was testing out the poll options, the post had been submitted already. |
I think by Matrix Pandora he is refering to a simulated reality of Pandora that is undistinguishable from reality. We have a discussion going about it in the science forum ("Nanobot Technology").
Personally I would always prefer the real Pandora, but I would settle for an SR Pandora if I had to (I prefer to not compare it to the Matrix, for obvious reasons). |
Yes, you are right. The post is up. Everyone can vote now.
|
Real Pandora all the way!
|
Definitly Real Pandora with deep hope that there is chance to move mind to the Avatar :)
|
definitely real Pandora :).
|
i will probably be the only person choosing "I wanted to go to Pandora, but now I just want to live on Earth.", but i don't want to go if i am not born there. We ruined Na'vi culture enough already.
|
Real Pandora for sure:)
|
I'll definitely say real pandora without a shadow of a doubt.
I don't want to live a lie, whether I knew about it or not. |
Real Pandora, going there for real has got a lot more awesomeness than a virtual Pandora. For the reasons that for one, I'd like to ie there myself and not be a character of the movie in a virtual Pandora and for two, I'd be experiencing Pandora personally for real. In a virtual Pandora you could say it was cool but you would have never actually have been there which wouldn't be enough for me.

"Matrix Pandora A"
When I think deeply about this, I find leaving to go to any semblance of Pandora absolutely terrifying. If I were to choose, however, I'd choose a virtual version while still possessing enough of my wits to understand none of it is real. Earth is where I belong. Forever. I'll never leave. If I have control then I'm good to go. If I don't have any control, I'm lost, and wouldn't have any idea where to begin. Actually, when I come right down to it, I'm not so sure I care whether or not Pandora is real. I just know I'd like to go there, but... not really go, just visit, preferrably through virtual reality. Lucid dreams are the line I draw. |
Believe it or not I really don't want to go anymore.
|
Real Pandora for sure. I would rather actually be in the world than "dreaming" it.
|
Consider this:
If we were plugged into machines and were living in the dreams, being it our new reality, we wouldn't complain. The machine is allowing us to live our lives in another world, without the worry of an ultimate death with the AI keeping our bodies intact. However in the matrix, John Travolta said it best: What eyes see, what ears hear, but the mind believes. If you die in the matrix, your done in real life. We wouldn't really be enslaved from AI, instead they would give us a new reality, where things are better, where things are not beyond repair. It's nice to live in this reality, here and now, because we have the ultimate control over it. We dream, ponder, and desire to be in our own dream worlds (our imaginations). AI can do this for us, but its best to keep a dream, a dream. Wonder and mysticism can make something all the more interesting. Personally, a Real Pandora. Since everything would be just as it were, my mind wouldn't be held hostage by the boundaries of planet Earth when something bad happens. Instead, if I fall on Pandora, I'll feel the effects that Pandora has upon my body (the damage being significantly lower, since the gravity of the planet is much lower than that of Earth). There are just so many things to consider.... |
Real Pandora, but only if I was an actual Na'vi (not just me in a Na'vi body), with all the experience and knowledge I would have as a result.
|
Hands down real Pandora :)

As I have said in similar threads, I don't think change of scenery would make that much of a difference, albeit photography might be quite awesome for a while, then after some time it would all be trivial.
What would it take to achieve happiness? I don't think just living in a jungle would do the trick. Or maybe there is no happiness, only illusion of it. Is it only that one must aspire towards this illusion? And if that were the case, then it would it even matter if it would be virtual or real? Anyways I'm too boring person to vote. |

I would choose earth if it was in its original state(before humans ruined it).
