The greatest family ever

We have never met each other, we only know ourselves by our nicknames and what we write here. We've got no relations.

Yet this is one of the greatest places I could have ever been in.

One of the few where I can say whatever I want: how I feel, how I see the world, comment the new video I found on Youtube or post something serious about politics or philosophy; knowing there will be always someone willing to reply and share the feeling.

There are some people who have found love in this place.

And even myself, I feel bad when I can't reply or post anything due to the lack of time these annoying final exams produce.

This is truly the greatest family ever.

My sentiments exactly. You'd think that after 5 months all of us would hate each other because we interact everyday, but surprisingly no. The bond everyone shares here is strong, very strong. We are a band of strangers that went on the Avatar journey together; we shared our experiences, our highs, our lows, our love and our wisdom. We all went through hardships and sometimes these hardships tested the very bond that holds all of us together, as a family.

We pulled through, with pulled through with ease, because everyone of us shares a common interest, and this interest has formed and sculpted friendships and relationships since it's premiere in December and are not easily broken.

You are all my second family, though I think I've interacted with all of you here more than my family in my entire life! I feel more at home here, and I think that this applies to a lot of others in this place. We all wanted our escape and we found it here together and we shared selflessly to help one another out.

You're all great! :D :D :D

The only sad thing is out of 7 billion humans, we have 362 signed up users. Perhaps 200 are really active. However, that may also be a good thing as a sense of community is a lot easier with a smaller group who are mostly familiar with each other.

It's sure better than running around alone in the world though, and that is exactly where we would be without this place.

True and sad. There are more out there that share our veiws, but where would we find them? I'm so glad to have found this place. I feel a sense of connection here that I have never felt in my life.

And more sad is thinkng about those, who will never find place like this and thus will remain trying to inhibit their feelings forever - some of them sucessfully :(.

I'm quite the opposite I find, I have a far stronger bond with my actual friends than with anyone I've met on here.

That's not a jab at the community, I just have much stronger relationships with my real life friends.

Yes. I definatly spend more time here than with my family or friends. I love all the people here and i thank you.

Dreaming Of Pandora's response is far better-worded than anything I could contribute, and sums up how I feel as well, so I'll limit myself to saying "exactly this!". :)

Aye, I do as well. I haven't been able to keep up with ToS recently, because of final exams, and I don't like it -- I haven't seen Avatar in two months (not by choice, believe me) and I'm forgetting how it made me feel ... add to that my forced departure from ToS, and I feel as though I'm slipping away from the community here. My finals are finally over, though, and I'm hoping to have time to catch up with everything soon. We'll see how it goes... :)

I'm not sure that the bonds here and the ones in real life are really the same. At least for me it seems quite different. I have real life friends I've known for more than 30 years. This place is what 4 months old? However, there is a certain tranquility here that I don't see so much in the real world. I'm not really sure how to articulate what I feel.

Sight Unseen 05-26-2010 01:01 AM

Isn't ToS just magical. I don't really have any friends in real life, and my parents are *******s (to be blunt). I share a stronger connection with you all here than to anyone in real life. There is so much love here, in contrast to my real life. Thank Eywa for ToS. I am proud to call you all my family/friends. *hugs*

I understand what you mean, txen. I think the older we are around here, the more we remember the time before the internet and the whole social networking phenomenon. For me, it's been very cool, since I have something of a history of substandard results meeting suitable friends outside of work. But friends in "meatspace" are as important or more, because you're there, face to face, sharing experiences first hand. That said, the web has kept me sane. Web fora are a great way to prevent being a complete recluse. In many ways it's a greater, more open form of socializing, and certainly far more dynamic. One thing I learned from being active in a forum before meeting someone in the Real World (tm) is that all of the awkward friend making preambles are gone. Friendship is already there, it's just a matter of hanging a human body on it. The first time I met all my buddies from Starship Modeler in Louisville for Wonderfest many years ago, it was a grand experience. The gripe that goes with that, though, is that I had to go back home and return to contacts only through the web. Still.....it's a heckuva lot better than no contacts at all!! And when it's this gaggle of Avatar fans....well, what more can I say!?
